Welcome everyone! (self.podcasts)

To whoever finds this new community, welcome!

I thought I would start this community off by sharing my favourite app and podcasts and would invite you to do the same.

I've been an Android user for many, many years now so I've been through every podcast app there is. The one I always come back to though, is Podcast Addict. The dev is really responsive, hard-working and listens to the community. The app itself has just an insane amount of features and anything you can think of is generally possible. I also like Podcast Republic and PocketCasts but they might be better suited to people who don't want to tinker as much and get everything little thing working as they like.

I go through new podcasts constantly so my favourites do change a lot, however, at the moment these are my favourites.

  • Last Podcast On The Left - They're a comedy true-crime/ paranormal/ weird stuff/ gory history podcast. They've been around a long time now and I always go back to them.
  • Chilluminati - This one is very similar to LPOTL but they do a lot of new conspiracies (the fun kind not the poisonous kind) and internet mysteries which I enjoy. They also have a slightly different dynamic in that two of the guys are believers and one is a sceptic.
  • Swinded - Swindled is a true crime podcast but it handles exclusively blue-collar crime, so shady business dealings, human rights violations, scams etc. It's really informative and really well written.
  • All Systems Goku - I'm not a huge anime fan but I love Dragon Ball. This series has been finished a while now but it's worth going back to every now and then. It's two comedians watching DBZ for the first time.
  • Retronauts - Admittedly, I haven't listened to this one in a while but it's a great retro gaming podcast with great hosts and guests.
  • You're Wrong About - A really fun and informative podcast about subjects and topics the public usually has a take on that might not be the entire truth.

Anyway! Welcome to the community and I can't wait to read everyone's replies!

Robert sits down with Ify Nwadiwe to talk about the weird cult that's formed around AI, and some of the most powerful people in Silicon Valley. (Adapted from his article in Rolling Stone: https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/ai-companies-advocates-cult-1234954528/)

Really liked listening in on the therapy sessions. I've looked for other similar podcasts and only found people discussing psychology not sessions.

Would love any recommendations.

Can anyone recommend a UFO podcast that's mostly grounded in reality and facts like High Strange or The UFO Rabbit Hole?

Easily my favorite podcast. Went through my favorited episodes and it was this 95% of the time. Skip his political takes normally but otherwise consistently insightful

Dan takes us on deep dives of fascinating moments in history, weaving a narrative tapestry from many historical sources and making the past more alive and accessible while exploring extreme human situations. If you're a history nerd and enjoy storytelling, this is the podcast for you. It is by far my favorite podcast and I always look forward to the next one, although due to the quality it can sometimes take a while.

Lots of AI news, which suits me.

While UnderUnderstood feels more like the spiritual successor to Gimlet's Reply All, the co-hosts of Hard Fork (Kevin Roose and Casey Newton) banter in a way that reminds me of P. J. Vogt and Alex Goldman.

A "utopian leftist comedy podcast." I've been listening to them for about a year, and they may be my favorite podcast. I love the ideas they explore and their sense of humor

Good evening all,

I recently finished listening to a great podcast called The Downtime Project which discusses post-mortems from large companies. The hosts analyze the root causes of the outage, what the company did well, and what the company could have done better.

I found this format fascinating and learned how to approach complex systems and identify some shortcomings in my own systems that I manage.

Unfortunately, it looks like there's only one season currently and I'd like to see if there's anything similar that anyone else is listening to.

Formats similar to this would be awesome, but anything tech-related would peak my interest!

Bonnetta Adeeb, founder & President of STEAM ONWARD, Inc, a Non-profit 501(c3) organization in Southern Maryland, as well as the projects: Ujamaa Cooperative Farming Alliance (UCFA) and Ujamaa Seeds. UCFA is a collective of emergent and seasoned growers who cultivate heirloom seeds and grow culturally relevant plants for food, healing, and textiles. Ujamaa recognizes the need for increased diversity in farming and the seed industry, and the need to provide more opportunities and support for growers from historically oppressed and marginalized communities. To this end the UCFA is working to bridge the gap between prospective growers and seed companies. In addition, she works with the Cooperative Gardens Commission to distribute free heirloom seeds to communities in need serving 300 seed hubs nationally. January 12 [2023], saw the launch of a new Black Indigenous led project. Ujamaa Seeds is and online store cultivating and distributing culturally important seeds to increase diversity in the seed industry.
