Karrot is a free and open-source tool for grassroots initiatives and groups of people that want to coordinate face-to-face activities on a local, autonomous and voluntary basis.

It is designed in ways to enable community-building and support a more transparent, democratic and participatory governance of your group.

So what is/ who is this? Who owns/ hosts karrot?

There is a flagship instance that is run by the developers and also the option to self-host it. They have a page about that in their documentation: https://docs.karrot.world/self-host/why

Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for and I couldn't find it any where obvious on the main page. It wasn't clear to me what or who karrot was, and how it was related to self hosting. They might consider adding an additional 'about' button some where very obvious for dumb dumbs like me who just miss it.

Interesting. I tried to use mobilizon which I think is activitypub-based but has somehow similar goals as Karrot. Karrot looks a bit lighter/snappier to use, which is good (but TBF it's been a while since I haven't given Mobilizon a try, maybe it got better since last time I tried).

They recently explained the difference here: https://fosstodon.org/@karrot/112225634228726754

Is this a self-hostable platform? I just see a signup option.

Yes, I linked the documentation on that elsewhere in this thread.

Just before your post about Karrot I finally (re-)installed Agora on Yunohost as a collaboration suite. First few users onboarded and praying it works. It's a bit ugly but does the job. Karrot looks to be more map-focused than Agora from a very fleeting look, I don't think I've seen it in the Yunohost catalogue.

So it's like an open source version of meet up, right?
