The Satanic Temple

I noticed there wasn't a TST Lemmy community. The Satanic Temple is a modern satanic religion that aims to promote human rights and compassion. Check out their about page on their official website at https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/about-us. Note that this community is not an official affiliation. TST is also separate and not affiliated with the Church of Satan, who have a slightly different viewpoint of what satanism truly is. Dunno what to post in here, but maybe some will search for this and take part. Hello!

A Florida school board paused a plan for a chaplain program after receiving First Amendment concerns — and interest from The Satanic Temple.

Fast-forward nearly four months, and the school board voted 3-2 to take the policy out [...] "I need more time to make a decision," said Heather Kahoun, the board chair. "I haven't had an opportunity to think about these things, to think about the implications regarding the First Amendment, regarding federal litigation that we could receive if we were to approve this as it is today."

Someone this stupid shouldn't be on the school board. All of these issues were raised during the initial fight over the bill, it's for months since the bill was signed, and now she suddenly needs more time to think though the implications? Idiot.

Or she's lying because she can't say, "only Christian ministers are allowed"

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 44 points 2 months ago (2 children)

“And we were hoping no one would figure out the loophole”

[–] SlopppyEngineer@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago

Especially not an organization that was specifically created to exploit those religious loopholes. Who could've seen that coming?

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Or trying to work out another way to only allow Christian ministry

“It’s super fucking important that I make everyone else believe what I tell people I believe, by any means necessary, for no apparent reason.” - these asshats I guess

This person makes stupid people look smart.

As does anyone who treats religion more seriously than Santa as an adult...

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why did you have to bring Santa into this? There was no call for that.

[–] TheDoozer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, Santa is nice and brings me presents. He doesn't send an angel to kill my livestock, kill my family, and torture me just to see if I'll still thank Him for it.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

He has also never asked me to kill my children. Not even once!

The santanic church 🙃

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

they're waiting until after the election is my guess

She's not stupid, she's backpedaling because she didn't think the Satanists would actually roll out.

The thing about Christians is that they're so certain they're right, it never occurs to them that some people don't believe as they do. Hell, look how some of them view atheists. We really do believe in capital G God, we're just in rebellion.

They're literally unable to comprehend the idea of "no god", unable to comprehend that any right-minded person would be offended by religion in schools. Notice how they have to enter a purpose-built echo chamber every Sunday to keep their faith shored up?

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 months ago

Aren't they elected? Voters are so freaking stupid.

TST yet again saving kids from stupid, boring shit

[–] rhadamanth_nemes@lemmy.world 37 points 2 months ago (1 children)

TST is doing the lord's work b/c the christofascists have lost the plot.

It's not just boring, it's a lifetime of anxiety and self hatred for breaking any number of arbitrary rules.

[–] hate2bme@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Haha tst doing the Lord's work should be there motto

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 69 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is always the way. Use their garbage against them.

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Can I sign up to be a minister of Satan? Seems like a sweet gig!

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm an ordained minister in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Want to join up?

[–] knightly@pawb.social 2 points 2 months ago

I'm ordained by the Church of the Latter-Day Dude, and highly reccomend it.

So how long before these folks realize that TST is going to do shit like this every time so they probably should just fucking stop trying to shove their religion down our throats…?

Like, this isn’t new, TST have been doing shit like this for decades and the religious wrong still haven’t figured it out?

Pathetic. And such a waste of time, effort, and energy.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 months ago

They know, they don't care. It's all virtue signaling. All their base sees is that the politicians are trying to force Christianity on people and the godless heathens are stopping them. Clearly they need to vote more Republicans into office.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh they know. Doesn't stop them from trying anyway, as they love to shove their religion down little kids throats.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

True, however some of them, especially rural ones, are so insular that it doesn't even occur to them that this is possible until it bonks them on the nose.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

TST isn't that old. It started in 2013.

[–] GroundedGator@lemmy.world 32 points 2 months ago

Besides the obvious intent of forcing their beliefs on vulnerable and unsuspecting children, I haven't seen anyone discuss that these are volunteers and as far as I know they are not mandatory reporters.

Counselors who work within the schools are licensed and are mandatory reporters. Having some guy who's been telling everyone they are going to hell every weekend for the last 30 years come talk to Suzy about her depression is not going to help anyone.
