Nobody has said Rebecca Black - Friday yet?

Fuck I am getting so old.

[–] finthechat@kbin.social 11 points 9 months ago

Yes, this is THE moment of that music video haha

[–] PlasmaDistortion@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago

This was the one that came to my mind.

[–] Thermal_shocked@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Cringe or not that song has millions of views and it's a hit. I used to listen to it every Friday at work

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Tbf it got popular because the video is so cringy and the music is bad, it was a meme not really a hit.

[–] xilliah@beehaw.org 2 points 9 months ago

'Fuck I am getting so old' so far.

In 1992 the black metal band Immortal made what is considered to be one of the worst music videos of all time: Call of the Wintermoon

Immortal is actually a really great band if you like black metal, but the video is painful to watch lol

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 7 points 9 months ago

Nah totally hilarious and endearing!🀣

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Some of their other early videos from the 90s are pretty cringe too, but this one by far is the worst lol

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I was just getting into black metal in the late 90s so I guess I completely missed this video. Lol

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

That's about when I got into it too! I got a lot of the early 90s stuff when I started working at a record store in 99 and I found that the late 80s/early 90s black metal scene was a very strange place lol

Got some Return to Oz mixed with a highschool AV club movie vibes

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 9 months ago

Idk what you're talking about this video is kvlt as fvck.

[–] CommanderCloon@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Isn't it just voluntarily cringe to be fun? Looks like it to me tbh

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

I read some interviews about it, it was supposed to be a serious video. The band members said the production company only gave them 2 hours on the day of shooting and then kind of made fun of them later. They were pretty pissed at the time. If you look into the history of black metal in the early 90s they really all took it way too seriously lol

Aaron Carter’s β€œHow I beat Shaq” is pretty hilarious. They actually got Shaq in it, but it’s clear that Aaron Carter had no idea how to play basketball. And they have to make it look like he’s better than Shaq? Yeah right

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Oh wow... I got through about a minute and a half and had to turn it off... the video is pretty bad but the song itself is the cringiest part lol

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I finally got that line in Ultimate Showdown.

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 9 months ago (1 children)

"Rock Me Tonight" by Billy Squire. It may be before many people's time so here is a link to the Cracked article about how that one music video ruined Billy Squire's entire career.

It's so squirmy cringe, I watch it every once in a while just to remind myself I'm not THAT bad a screw up. Oof.

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

That was rough... I feel like it would be on par with a lot of other bad 80s videos if it weren't for the so called "dancing". That really put it over the top lol

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago (3 children)

The other video I posted made me remember what may be the actual worst video of all time. Really all of his videos are so bad they almost seem like a parody, but he was super serious about all of it lol

Watch FADADES at your own discretion

[–] Alter_Id@kbin.social 6 points 9 months ago

Last I saw it isn't actually clear whether or not Fadades is parody or legitimate. Very clear in any either case that Fadades is great.

Especially within a genre like black metal where bands will make contra-conventional artistic decisions by way of course as it is, stumbling upon a vibe like this out of honest artistic expression vs. deriving it with a manifest ambiguity where the tongue seems to sprout from the cheek almost hardly matters. However Fadades came to be, it's a monument to whatever it actually is.

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I am now in pain. why am I now in pain?! I don't understand. it hurts.

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Too much psychomathematical metal will do that! That's what he actually calls this music lol

[–] hactar42@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)
[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

He used to have an active comments section but he turned it off because most of the comments were from people saying he makes the videos in his mom's basement.

[–] LdyMeow@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 months ago

That’s hilarious, omg

[–] workerONE@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 months ago

She's really talented, what a beautiful voice!

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Ok this one must be some kind of parody video

[–] xilliah@beehaw.org 1 points 9 months ago

I'm impressed. It's like acid slowly and painfully dissolving my entire nervous system.

[–] SomeGuy69@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Good song, great video

[–] Thermal_shocked@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Oh God this again

[–] Klanky@sopuli.xyz 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The β€˜Big Enough’ song by…someone. Like I watched it and can’t tell if it was a parody or what? It and the song were so bad, to me at least.

[–] iamtrashman1312@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Other users may know this from youtube as the gay screaming cowboy video

Skip to 2:17 for the part you all remember

[–] Pratai@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago

Who’s that dog-whistle tooting racist rapper again? Yeah… that guy.

whatever J-Lo has been working on

[–] BeardedSingleMalt@kbin.social 1 points 9 months ago

There was a demo for a music video maybe 10 years ago, Day Day - Backseat, the video seems to have since been scrubbed from the internet and the best I could find was a thumbnail. The only things I can remember about it are the lyrics went something like "if your driver needs a rider...then you put it in my backseat" (yes, its about exactly what you think) and the guy singing it looked like a cross between Geordi LaForge an Lady Gaga.

[–] Num10ck@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

for me its about the contrast between an amazing song and an absurdly terrible video that in no way captures the tone or feel or quality or intent or expression of the song. for my money its depeche mode's leave in silence.

[–] THE_ANON@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

I today accidentally watched arriana grande's "yes and" and had to quit 1 minute in so much cringe entitlement etc🀒
