I'm fairly new here and was trying to subscribe to some communities from other instances and seem to be having trouble. Are some instances blocked by ours and is there a viewable list of which ones?

Here's a link to the list of linked and blocked instances on slrpnk.net: https://slrpnk.net/instances

To find that page, go to the bottom of your instance site and click on the instances link

Much appreciated! Is there anyway to interact with blocked instances without joining it directly? I've noticed Lemmygrad has some communities I would be interested in but I don't really want to joins their instance.

If there is a way, I unfortunately would not know how. The only thing I can think to suggest is hopping over to a instance that doesn't block it and federates with this one (and all the others you are interested in) and creating a new account there.

That would be the way to do it - Lemmy.world currently isnt blocking anyone - http://lemmy.world/instances for example.

Gotcha. I just jumped off of lemmy.ml because of the overloading happening with the reddit exodus. Think I'll just chill here for a while and get my bearings. I like the federated concept, it's just taking some getting used to.

Unfortunately the instance you are looking for is blocked and for good reason (super toxic community after they welcomed many people from a banned sub-reddit). I wish more Lemmy instances would block them.

Is this about LemmyGrad? What was the banned sub that they welcomed?

[–] poVoq 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes, /r/GenZedong

Well, I guess it was never fully banned, but when it was quarantined a lot of their users switched to Lemmygrad for a while and really harassed everyone else using Lemmy. It quieted down these days, but I rather not take my chances with them.

Ah, that makes perfect sense then.

I see. What did they do to become so generally blocked? I've been moving much further left as I get older and was curious about some of their views when I joined Lemmy. I assume it was more than just having leftist opinions. Are they pro Putin or something?

Really a long list of stanning for autocratic mass-murderers, too much to list all here. They are also generally hostile to Anarchists. I think this article sums it up pretty well: https://lib.edist.ro/library/mann-their-anti-imperialism-and-ours
