At the risk of sounding like autotldr bot, here's an assortment of big numbers without any additional context:

Queensland Ambulance Service this afternoon confirmed a 10-year-old girl is in a critical condition at Sunshine Coast University after they were injured by the storm while at a private address in Beerwah.

Heavy rain, large hail and record-breaking winds up to 169 kph were felt at Archerfield Airport, in Brisbane's south, where nine planes were damaged.

Prior to this storm, the previous record at Archerfield was 143 kph, back in December of 1946.

SES volunteers have been busy, with 182 call outs since Friday afternoon.

Energex received over 250 reports of powerlines down through those storms yesterday and most of that was caused by things like trees, roofing iron, other debris being blown or falling onto those power lines," Mr Stork said.

Sounds like a nice community :-\

Tamieka Brittnee, who became homeless in May shortly after her 27th birthday, said she had been pelted with eggs and called "scum" and a "filthy animal" by people passing her tent in Woody Point.

...

The Woody Point Action Group has been lobbying Moreton Bay Regional Council and the state government to remove homeless people from the suburb.

Several members of its Facebook page have likened the homeless people to pigs, and used several unpublishable slurs.

I guess we have a new premier now?

Labor MPs have unanimously elected Steven Miles as Queensland's 40th premier, less than a week after Annastacia Palaszczuk announced she was retiring after almost nine years in the top job.

...

Mr Miles was elected unopposed by the Labor caucus in Brisbane this morning, with Treasurer Cameron Dick becoming the new deputy premier.

tl;dr Southbank

Whenever the Brisbane River ran low in the early 1900s it was often accompanied with the overpowering stench of human waste, dead fish and industrial gas.

In 1899 the Brisbane Courier reported that the stink was so overwhelming that bathers would "violently" vomit into the water.

Human, horse and cow waste was poured directly into the Brisbane River, which often turned black during low flows.

...

"If Brisbane wants to spend an odd million or so on a beautification scheme, the ideal one would be to raze to the ground every building in Grey and Stanley Streets between the railway and the river, and transform the area into a huge city playground and aquatic sports arena," they wrote.

"That would be something worthwhile, as the area as it is now is nothing but an industrial slum."

...

Urban designer Deb Robbins has a family connection to that Southbank of old — her father leased a warehouse there, back when it was still a noisy industrial zone.

The landscape architect said the real turning point for the area was World Expo 88, which forever changed Southbank and Brisbane in general.
