Yeah I listened to the podcast recommended a few replies back, great episode if you haven't listened already - it's hilarious how easily they can social engineer their way into accounts once they know the process:

I think we're talking on it right now. The nerds and early adopters are already here. The community and open source technology will grow organically until we start drawing the attention of the masses because the experience is better. It's just going to take a few more years of enshitification, just like Digg.
I don't think they seriously expected any third party apps to agree to the costs. They just wanted a plausible excuse to funnel everyone into their own app for data collection and advertising revenue. That's my best guess anyway, another business decision for the IPO.
This has baffled me for years - why don't they allow MFA through Google Authenticator or equivalent? Especially when this has been a known security issue for so long. Aussie banks are really behind the times on this one.
But shouldn't part of that process involve verifying the customer on the phone is currently in possession of the number? ie. Sending a text with a code and having you read the code back to them. Perhaps they manage this by fooling the victim into giving them that info through some other method.
Edit: thanks for the podcast recommendation btw, subscribed and downloading now!
Sure do! I loosely followed this guide, but ended up rolling my own code: https://www.thesmarthomehookup.com/upgrade-your-old-roomba-to-a-smart-botvac-for-5/
It really does feel like the old days of the internet doesn't it? I started browsing All on here due to the lower volume of content, and you know what? It's been great. Interesting discussions and community spirit everywhere! If you tried doing that on Reddit these days... ugh.
I'm optimistic about social media for the first time in a decade.
I hacked my old Roomba to do this by hardwiring an ESP8266 to its serial port. I control it directly through MQTT, though in hindsight using ESPHome would have been simpler. That was a fun project!
I've just started browsing All by New Comments or Top Day. Right now I'm finding the growth curve interesting enough that it's all quite interesting to me! I'm sure that will change if things keep growing here, but seems to be working well for the moment. Imagine trying that on Reddit...
Does it allow two way video chat? I've currently got a Google Doorbell and the thing that's holding me back from an offline alternative is how well it integrates with Android and Google Home - I can be out with friends and still answer the door from my phone, see what's happening etc.
Just learned a new word footgun. I love it, so true of C++.
