/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ **8. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I would absolutely love a mudbath with Lwaxana. She would talk so much shit over really boozy cocktails. I know she's not everybody's cup of tea but I find her pretty charming.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't know, she's too babbly for me. I want a conversation where I can get a word in from time to time.

The only thing that perplexes me is why Starfleet hired her to be the voice of the Enterprise computer! And Picard didn't even notice!

[–] maniacalmanicmania@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Maybe they paid Christine Chapel to use her voice and it just so happens Lwaxana's voice sounds similar.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't know, her voice sounded a lot like the TOS Enterprise's computer...

[–] threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

the TOS

The the original series?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Don't sass me, boy.

[–] ilovesatan@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Can somebody explain this to a non-trekkie.

[–] negativenull@lemm.ee 17 points 10 months ago

Probably better to read the synopsis: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Cost_Of_Living_(episode)

It's all innocent, but looks/feels really awkward

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (4 children)

So naked kids can sit next to naked adults in the future and everyone's okay with it?

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 57 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Nudity is not inherently sexual; that's just our cultural hangup.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Okay, I can see where you're coming from, but this is nutty and impulsive Alexander next to nutty and impulsive Lwaxana Troi.

[–] negativenull@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago (2 children)

The whole episode gives odd vibes. She takes Alexander into the Holodeck, and butters him up with a carnival type thing, then ends up in the mudbath at the end. Not a good look.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Such a weird episode. The guy with his balls gave me the creeps

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And it was a season 5 episode! I could almost forgive it if it was a season 7 episode because season 7 was the "let's throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" season...

[–] negativenull@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago

Season 5 episode 20: "Cost of Living"

[–] Jesus_666@feddit.de 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I mean, that's what happens in saunas every day. Context matters.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Saunas are usually gender-segregated.

Not that it would matter. Alexander would get angry in the sauna and start cock and cunt-punching.

Let me guess, you are from the USA or a similarly prude country.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The prude country that made the image OP posted?

[–] Nacktmull@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Yes indeed. You seem unaware but everyone in that picture is either dressed or covered in mud up to their shoulders. Which is weird because you obviously can see the picture.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think you could be a little nicer. Things are supposed to be civil here.

[–] Nacktmull@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Apologies, I did in no way intend to be rude. I was just trying to point out that your cultural norms are not universal. I wish you a very nice day!

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 months ago

I traveled in Europe several times and my wife and I on several occasions paid a bit more or found a deal to get four star hotels with public baths and saunas. Most people use them as you think you would with a bit of modesty and cover up. But on two occasions we got caught in a sauna where a Scandinavian or German family came in fully nude with their children who were also nude. I can accept being around other nude adults but even then I'm still uncomfortable. But when it came to children in public, we just quickly packed up and left ... I don't care what cultural differences there are, I'm not sticking around to even talk about it.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

It's OK now too

[–] negativenull@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Apparently.

[–] Cagi@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 months ago

The higher the fewer!

[–] Chickenstalker@lemmy.world -2 points 10 months ago

Europeans, Nords and Japs do this all the time.
