So where should it go? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have you tried any of the other politics subs?

Chewy -> Lion
Leia -> Dorothy
C3PO -> Tin man
That leaves Luke as... the Scarecrow?

Edit: I can't believe I missed Mouse Droid as Toto!

I’m very confident they don’t want someone who’s not NASA killing their very expensive instrument prematurely. They probably would feel better about a NASA astronaut accidentally killing the telescope

I wonder if Polaris II would ever become a joint mission with NASA? Perhaps with a pair of NASA astronauts and a pair of private ones?

Wow, I didn't realize they'd launched almost 20 of them over the years...

Aren't the events depicted here alluded to in a later comic as the reason they "have not been to the museum for a while, at the museum's request"?

"Could"

Until a working prototype is built, I will be treating the field of warp drives (even sublight warp) with a healthy dose of skepticism. Glad people are working on it though.

Interesting statement by the FAA to NSF regarding IFT-3 mishap investigation:

https://x.com/BCCarCounters/status/1791600893151821827

Statement of FAA provided to @NASASpaceflight about SpaceX led investigation:

"If the FAA agrees no public safety issues were involved in the mishap, the operator may return to flight while the mishap investigation remains open, provided all other license requirements are met."

https://x.com/BCCarCounters/status/1791611426991157438

NSF followed up with the question if this would mean that a positive outcome of this investigation would mean the launch license will be modified before the mishab is closed?

The FAA answered: "Yes, provided all other license requirements are met."

FAQ

  1. When next launch? Wen IFT-4? IFT-4 is now NET June 1st. "Objective is for the ship to get past max heating or at least further than last time."
  2. When previous launch? (IFT-3)? Booster 10 and Ship 28 launched on 2024-03-14.
  3. What was the result? Booster makes it to the landing burn, but loses control and insufficient engines relight. RUD occurs at 462 m in altitude. S28 makes it to reentry but fails to face the heat shield in the correct direction, followed shortly by RUD. Payload door test and propellant transfer demo "complete".

I can do this manually using the following: Right-click on the video player, copy debug info, paste into text editor, and Ctrl+F for "addocid".

What is the best way to do this automatically?

By modifying an ad accelerator I found, I can reliably detect when a pre-roll ad is playing:

function handleVideoAd() {
	const video = document.querySelector('video');
	const adElement = document.querySelector('.video-ads.ytp-ad-module');
	if (video && adElement && adElement.children.length > 0) {
		alert('advertisement found!')
	}
}

function initializeAdHandling() {
	handleVideoAd();
	const observer = new MutationObserver(handleVideoAd);
	observer.observe(document.body, { childList: true, subtree: true });
}
initializeAdHandling()

If I had the video ID, I could then open the video in a new tab using something like:

window.open('https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adVideoID');

However, I am at a bit of a loss as to how to extract the ad video ID itself.

In the browser inspector, the only places I can find the ad video ID are:

  1. Within the URL for ytp-cued-thumbnail-overlay-image
  2. As adVideoId within var ytInitialPlayerResponse, which itself is within <script nonce="rwc3vYf3vRLEyNQKsJOgig">, where rwc3vYf3vRLEyNQKsJOgig changes with every video.

What would be the best way to extract the advertisement video ID?

Apologies for if I'm going about this the wrong way. I am (very!) new to JavaScript, but interested in learning. Please let me know if I've broken any community rules, or committed any other sort of faux pas. Thanks! :)
