Lemmy isn't reddit, but whatever it is, they're both the internet.

Nope, Lemmy is just as toxic as Reddit imo.

[–] socsa@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 year ago

It's far more toxic if hexbear finds the thread.

[–] braxy29@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i'm pretty new here (came with the exodus), and it seemed like it would be better for a bit. but i just told a family member a couple hours ago that it seems like the worst of reddit is starting to show up.

[–] Jazard23@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 year ago

I actually saw an increase as well, but lately its become friendlier again. I think it might have to do with the recent waves of defederation, but which instance did it, I don't know

We're so special. We're so strong and brave and we're smarter than everyone

[–] UrPartnerInCrime@sh.itjust.works 46 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And humble. But I'm the most humble

This meme was true a few months ago. Not so much anymore.

Yea this is completely untrue now, at least on any post involving economics and/or certain wealthy individuals

[–] StarkillerX42@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Rip pre-hexbear Lemmy, gone too soon.

[–] null 8 points 1 year ago

Nah, it was creeping in before that. Took off huge with the Sync migration.

[–] DaBabyAteMaDingo@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago

I don't downvote but I still leave toxic comments.

Bitch.

[–] SkySyrup@sh.itjust.works 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s better, but I still often see posts with massive amounts of downvotes for no reason.

Also this is specific to SJW, but I often see the opinions from the people that are less invested in the topic being pushed all the way to the bottom, due to the more active people downvoting everything. (agora)

[–] OpenStars@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago

Is the goal of social media to inform, or be popular?

Social Media-ites: "Yes".

:-P

[–] Veilus@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago (4 children)

The thing that I hate about it is that I am on the spectrum, and as such have posted things that have gotten down voted to hell and back but even when I ask why, I never get an answer. The question "why is this happening I don't understand" only feeds the down votes. Now, idgaf about internet points, I'd just like to know what's wrong about what I said.

And for the record I'm normal ASD, not the 4chan Hitler shit, so it's not because I said anything racist lol

[–] AhismaMiasma@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Reply with some heavily down voted comments and I will try and help you, if you're willing.

[–] Veilus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ty but reddit has been Uninstalled. Originally said the account was deleted but idt that's true actually lol too tired to go through all that

You've made twelve (12) comments, and none of them or your posts are downvoted. What are you talking about?

[–] Veilus@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm talking on reddit. Like the meme refers

Ricin

Haha, a toxic comment. Take that, OP

agree, I tried advertising Lemmy to my friends, but when they are showing very little interest in the idea of digital freedom or privacy I just stop trying.

It also doesn't help that one person in question jumped the (reddit) ship to Twitter.

Someone else I tried playes League and OW2.

I made the decision that maybe lemmy isn't for everyone. please stay unpopular/hidden and fun.

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago (7 children)

Wait, hold up, I play OW2. How is that an argument against using Lemmy?

[–] SomeBoyo@feddit.de 16 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm sorry, but it's time for you to leave. /s

But seriously. It's not an argument against using Lemmy. It's more, that OW's community has a reputation for being toxic and he does not want them on here.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

People downplay the reasons people get toxic on games like OW

When you're forced to rely on other people to help you achieve a goal and the majority of those people have the cognition of a brick it gets pretty hard to stay calm.

It's why I quit playing team based games like it in the first place. I wasn't having fun and I'd get pissed over small shit.

Probably that those games have massive reddit communities?

Shitty people are like gases: they occupy all the available spaces.

[–] S_204@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

I got permanently banned from personal finance for pointing out that America doesn't have healthcare and it's a sad problem for employees who get trapped.

The mod situation over there is getting comically bad. Hopefully this place ends up being much less toxic.

We still get our share of toxicity here. I mused recently that if you're assessing the success of lemmy/kbin on how close an experience to reddit it is - I've been attacked in the same ways by hyper fixated debate lords here too

It's not that they downvote, it's how they downvote. Which I've seen some of it here but not as much.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, downvotea are fine. It's a form of moderation. Downloading things that add to the conversation but you disagree with is childish

[–] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I generally try not to downvote comments unless someone says something either very stupid or if it's some sort of propaganda. If someone makes a good argument against me, or just disagrees with me, I don't downvote their replies.

kBin overall seems a lot friendlier. Like, there absolutely a handful of some crappy contrary trolls I've encountered, but not like the 8 per thread on reddit.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Why. Didn't. You. Dodge‽ bleh

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think I’ve downvoted less than five times when a headline is clickbait or similar. Downvote does not mean disagree.

Nah, not in my experience.
