"I'm so over people complaining about racism," says wealthy white politician from the racist party. More news at 11.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

The party of fuck your feelings has a lot to say about people's feelings.

[–] 58008@lemmy.world 12 points 2 hours ago

The jokes were the least-offensive thing about that fucking rally.

[–] thesmokingman@programming.dev 14 points 3 hours ago

This is why you can’t use The Independent for shit especially during election season.

“I haven’t seen the joke. Maybe it’s a stupid racist joke, maybe it’s not,” Vance said.

“I’m not going to comment on the specifics of the joke, but I think that we have to stop getting so offended at every little thing in the United States of America. I’m just I’m so over it.”

If you send this article to someone who wants to vote for Trump, they are going to correctly excoriate you. I know this because the last time I used The Independent this was was 2016 when Trump first and The Independent couldn’t back up its headlines then. In the last eight years it still can’t. If we take Vance at face value, which we know we can’t but we have to since that’s the quote The Independent chose to use to create their headline, it’s fake news.

In general, The Independent generates clickbait headlines that pull in a specific group of people that want to agree with the article and won’t verify who then send it to another group of people who will engage with the content to try and verify. This increases their engagement while spreading a mix of blatant lies and loose misinformation. Your life will be better if you filter out The Independent (something I haven’t yet bothered to do on Lemmy but did immediately on a new Reddit account; election season might finally change this) especially if you’re the audience for the headlines.

Monosodium glutamate held a rally?

[–] bender223@lemmy.today 4 points 3 hours ago

Some call Uncle Roger! 😮‍

[–] ziggurat@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Also what I thought! Anyway it's Maddison square garden

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 76 points 5 hours ago (4 children)

Oh, really? You’re sick of everyone being offended?

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 21 points 4 hours ago

Well you can't expect Republicans to not be hypocritical snowflake assholes, it's officially written into their religious and party values.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 16 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

What's Whitmer's Dorito video?

[–] knightly@pawb.social 9 points 4 hours ago

Looks like it was a political ad that weirdly mashed up a communion parody with commentary on a bill that was supposed to boost domestic semiconductor production: https://heavy.com/entertainment/gretchen-whitmer-dorito-doritos-video/

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

The paradox of intolerance.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 minute ago

This doesn't fit. It's just hypocracy. They aren't intolerant of some things because it hurts people. They are intolerant of things they don't like and intolerant of people disagreeing with them.

This is the first I’m hearing about this Doritos video, and yeah, it’s a little silly and straight outta context, but it’s nowhere as wildly weird as thinking that a goof about a dommy nommy mommy feeding her pet is sacrilegious.

Except couches, those are usually below him

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 126 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

It's always "just a joke" when people get offended.

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world 43 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I'm just joking but I hope he has an accident involving his dick and a Lazy Boy recliner mechanism.

I hope I didn't offend anyone.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure that's offensive to Lay-Z-Boy recliners.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Can confirm. I became a lay-z-boy recliner just to be offended.

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 24 points 5 hours ago

This is their whole position on wokeness. I can say all the offensive shit I want and not be held accountable, but if you offend my sensibility, I am gonna clutch my pearls so hard I'll squeeze a diamond outta my cooch.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 68 points 6 hours ago

So, the couch fucker invited him. Got it.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 37 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I'd like someone to explain what the joke is in calling one of our colonies a "trash island"

Please, some big brained masculine conservative explain it to me.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 20 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

"We think all non-whites are trash! Ha ha! Don't you get it? Garbage people on an island make it a garbage island! I say it with the intent of making other white people laugh so it's ok!"

"How come they can say it but I can't that's the real racism here."

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 14 points 5 hours ago

So .... he's OK with being openly racist?

That's one of the shitty quality I dislike about conservatives, especially far right and ultra conservatives. They know that the things they believe are wrong, immoral, unethical and inequitable so they have to say how they feel in secret or in coded language or to obfuscate everything they say and deny everything if they are called on it.

I dislike them because they are cowardly for being racist ... I also dislike them for being cowardly in their denial that they are racist.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

JD Vance: "Bad things are a fact of life. Vote for the party that doesn't believe things can or should get better."

[–] arandomthought@sh.itjust.works 25 points 6 hours ago

Well, looks like many people are not "so over it".
Also, should we really "get over" pushing back at racist shit?
Your argument is weak, you get an F. Go sit down and think about what you did.

[–] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 5 hours ago

By all means, defend the "joke". I suggest doing it especially in Pennsylvania.

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, why should people be upset when the president of the country is promoting the idea that they're worthless because of some unchangeable innate traits? Silly.

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

"I'm not offended by it, why should anybody else be offended by it?"

[–] ATDA@lemmy.world 20 points 6 hours ago

I'm so over people who visit and don't pay for THEIR Stanley Steamer bill. Also he jizzed on my couch.

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 16 points 5 hours ago

I’m so over people saying horrific things and getting upset at being held accountable for it

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 hours ago

Vaguely racial put-down jokes can be funny, but they require a great deal of context and subtext to work. Being republican narrows the options to taking the role of the heel already, but during a rally where voters are meant to be fed information that makes them excited, I can’t see it.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 9 points 5 hours ago

Somebody should tell JD Vance that watermelon jokes are older than political correctness, by about a hundred years.

(they date back to reconstruction when watermelon was one of the first cash crops the former enslaved people were farming)

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

You can do racist jokes, no subject is off limits to a good comedians. They still exsist. The problem is when you are not joking and supporting people that openly support nazi or klan believes.

Example: Bill Burr makes a black joke, I laugh.

Michael Richards or Roseanne Barr makes the same joke, I believe we see into there actual believes.

rickles! he was the king of risky but funny

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago

Jimmy Carr will specifically tell offensive jokes, he understands what a joke is and how to write a good one.

[–] thesporkeffect@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

Tee hee, I'm just a silly little JD Vance, all this yelling is so boring, can't we just do our little racism amongst ourselves without the woke scolds getting upset for once?

Let me guess - he wouldn’t shut the fuck up about the opening ceremony at the Paris Olympics.

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 5 points 5 hours ago

If people don’t laugh at your offending joke it’s not a joke. It’s just offending.

[–] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Besides the defeat of nazism, the next best thing about Trump losing is never having to see asshole JD again (except for Ohioans)

[–] nemonic187@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Couch fucker says what?

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Insert James Acaster here: “What’s the matter, guys? Too challenging for you?“
