Why are people trying so hard to get Taylor Swift lumped in with those other goons? Yea ok she has high ticket prices but at least she has a real job. The rest are actively trying to destroy democracy and the working class.

She's a woman. It's just misogyny. She actually does her best to make sure the folks who work for her are taken care of.

The fact that all the wealthiest in the world are mostly awkward straight white dudes who don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves probably hits too close to home.

If not Taylor, it would be Oprah or some shit.

She actually does her best to make sure the folks who work for her are taken care of.

Back when the directors and actors and everyone else in Hollywood was on strike, she got her movie made. She did it by the simple expedient of getting everyone together in one roomn and asking "What do you want?" They gave her their lists, she looked the lists over and said, "Great, you got it! Let's sign this thing and get to work!", and they did.

She’s still fucked up. Especially in relation to absurd usage of private jets and questionable carbon offset tokens.

But yes, most of the hyperfixation on her is way overblown and reeks of misogyny.

[–] GottaKnowYourCHKN@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Do you have ANY idea how many celebrities do the same? How many CEOs?

People are clamoring on this one thing about her because she's a woman and she's wealthy. I couldn't give two shits about TS, but I can see when people are trying to have SOMETHING on her, when there is nothing really there.

The people I find who act like TS is singlehandedly causing climate change, are also people who actually don't give AF about climate change.

The best billionaire can go to the guillotine last.

you clearly didn’t read my comment because I’m mostly aggreing lol.

Take a deep breath, and actually attempt to understand what I said. Not just the first sentence, but my entire comment.

[–] GottaKnowYourCHKN@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Uh huh. My response was to the first part of your comment.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I say that: Swift does fucked up stuff private jet. But the obsession on criticising her as opposed to all the other rich people reeks of misogyny.

You said that: Me critcizing her is wrong because so many other people do private jets.

My reaction: So you’re criticizing me by agreeing with me? Or you think private jets is okay? I’m confused?

[–] GottaKnowYourCHKN@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I just didn't say you were wrong. I say other people DO private jets, are far older than her and have been using them for far longer, and that on the list of folks who are destroying our planet and eating up resources, I really don't think she compares. People just latch on her because she's a wealthy woman.

Tbh, I think we're agreeing but saying it differently. Sorry if I'm coming across harsh at you, but I'm not actually complaining about what YOU said. Mostly venting just to vent by pigging backing off your comment.

My wife hung out with her for the day as part of her job. Her mother was a bitch—my wife accidentally tripped Taylor over and the mother lost it—but Taylor was super nice. They were friends by the end of the day and swapped numbers, but neither ever reached out haha.

This was before she got super famous and was just some young country singer. I dunno if she's still the same but I don't see why not.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

I don't like her music, but that's just music preferences and not a reflection on her. I have no issues with her as a human being.

I think some of it may be the generic "billionaires are bad." But there are many, many better examples to choose from. She is just a bigger name, more well known than many of them.

[–] EndOfLine@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

She supported Harris. A vast majority, if not all of these "look at Isreal and Palestine" posts are an attempt to siphon votes away from Harris and improve Trump's odds of winning the election.

I…thought it was to make the trolley problem a little more difficult to resolve.

[–] Shiggles@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah 1, 2, and 4 are easy lever flicks, 3’s a bastard but I would be on the fence about the lever flick and 5 is even less “objectively deserves to feel the consequences of their actions” though no one with that much net worth is particularly easy to be sympathetic to.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

You could even ask Taylor Swift if she'd be okay with it.

I think Gates is worse than Zuckerberg

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

(Serious question) I'm not super sure in the know... What did Gates do that was terrible? Was any of it counter acted by the Gates Foundation work?

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He did shitty/shady business stuff as CEO of Microsoft. He’s got suspicious ties to Epstein. His philanthropy is good and all but overall he’s still a greedy wealth hoarder.

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I think he said multiple times that he found it very hard to spend his money (for good things) faster than he's still earning it. He was the poster boy for capitalism in the booming tech market when it happened (with all the shitty business practices you can think of), but after he left Microsoft, he's been doing good things and trying to throw as much money as possible on it. He's at a level where his wealth hoarding happens on its own, even if he's not greedy for money. He's not trying to hoard it, he's part of the group of billionaires who keep saying they need to be taxed more.

[–] Shiggles@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I’m unaware of Gates’ complicity in any genocides, though I’m certainly no expert.

Nah, it was to point out the obvious flaws in harm reduction.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Tankie cred. There’s nothing like casually talking about guillotining Taytay to let people know in no uncertain terms that you’re definitely no bourgeois liberal electoralist. It’s the 2020s equivalent of declaring how enthusiastically and unflinchingly you’d have bayoneted the Romanov children.

One of these people is not like the others

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 30 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

That Palestinian child is going to be horrified that I let Taylor swift die.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

At least the child will be around to miss her.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure the child will be able to shake it off.

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 23 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

the child lives

gg ez

in fact the only way you'd get me to let the palestinian child die is if you strapped netanyahu to the tracks next to him.

[–] SassyRamen@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If even a single child has to die then it's not the right choice. We can end bad people and spare children, it's just that easy!

And the anti abortion movement was born.

"That's why I'm running for US senate."

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Sorry, Taylor! I know you'll understand.

[–] ech@lemm.ee 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And what is the lever? What choice are you making irl between billionaires and victims of Netanyahu's violence?
