Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe, a conservative firebrand known for his strong support of defense spending and his denial that human activity is responsible for the bulk of climate change, has died. He was 89.

Inhofe, a powerful fixture in Oklahoma politics for over six decades, died Tuesday morning after he had a stroke over the July Fourth holiday, his family said in a statement.

Inhofe, who was elected to a fifth Senate term in 2020, stepped down in early 2023.

His denial of climate change evidenced by his holding of a snowball on the congressional floor in winter was the moment I realized that memes are now more important than facts.

[–] kevindqc@lemmy.world 108 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That was him? Rest in piss

[–] mecfs@lemmy.world 69 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Suprisingly he was the only Republican to take long covid seriously. Because he got it.

“It only matters when it affects me” is the republican mantra I guess.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 months ago

Always has been.

[–] Jaderick@lemmy.world 36 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Time to go throw a snowball on his grave and laugh

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 months ago

I think some Weekend at Bernies style shenanigans are definitely called for

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 101 points 3 months ago

Fuck this guy. Left the world worst before dying.

[–] rusticus@lemm.ee 60 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That snowball you brought to the Senate floor won’t help you now that you’re in hell Jim.

Ah Senator Snowball dies on the hottest July 4th weekend ever. Coincidence?

[–] snow_bunny@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] hagelslager@feddit.nl 51 points 3 months ago

Good riddance

[–] resin85@lemmy.ca 42 points 3 months ago

Step 1: vote against COVID vaccine distribution funding

Step 2: get COVID

Step 3: retire due to long COVID

Step 4: die from long COVID

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 40 points 3 months ago

Aww, he should've live longer and suffer the consequences of his climate denial with us :(

[–] Cleverdawny@lemm.ee 34 points 3 months ago

RIP bozo

And by that I mean rest in piss

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 34 points 3 months ago

He lived a long and happy life selling our country to giant corporations.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 32 points 3 months ago

He actively made the world worse.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 30 points 3 months ago (3 children)

A dead republican is very rarely bad news.

I remember him for blocking aid to Hurricane Sandy victims. When I suggested someone reciprocate and block aid to tornado victims in Oklahoma on reddit, I got down voted to hell.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd shit on Imhofe's grave.

[–] dantheclamman@lemmy.world 27 points 3 months ago

Oklahoma man honored to finally be metabolized into various greenhouse gases

[–] Delonix@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Good, fuck off

[–] c0smokram3r@midwest.social 24 points 3 months ago

rest in piss, asshole

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 23 points 3 months ago

I often wonder when a conservative asshole dies after a lifetime of doing conservative asshole things, does anyone really miss them? Like I imagine his family does not care much for him. Nothing will be named after him, I can't imagine what, being as anti science and education as can be.

He was a terrible person and I'm glad he's dead..

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 23 points 3 months ago

Good riddance.

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 22 points 3 months ago

And nothing of value was lost!

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago

Pieces of shit like this make me wish hell was real.

You're a traitor to country and all of humanity; the world became a slightly better place when you died. I hope your final moments were as agonizing as the policies you supported.

Good riddance.

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's really sad to think that the highlight of this guy's career was that he DIDN'T choose to commit treason. He was one of the very few Republican senators to actually certify the election results in 2020.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 19 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Great news. Fuck that guy all the way to hell.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Anyone got an in with a ski resort? I'm thinking we use one of their snow generators and a bunch of coolers and make lots of snowballs and head over to his grave and start pitching them.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 15 points 3 months ago

Plenty of climate change where he will now be burning 🔥 for an eternity

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I don't suppose it's at all likely that y'all might replace him with a Democrat?

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 38 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

He's a former senator; stepped down in 2023. Has already been replaced by MarkWayne Mullin.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 32 points 3 months ago (5 children)

With a name like Markwayne, it's painfully obvious this person is a Republican

[–] Phenomephrene@thebrainbin.org 43 points 3 months ago (4 children)

He's the guy that challenged Union Rep Sean O'Brien to a fistfight during a senate hearing. Doesn't get much more Markwayne than that.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I was frankly shocked he didn't have a mullet

I'm pretty sure O'Brian called him "Clownshoes".

It's a Boston thing, and Markwayne 100% deserves to be called that.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 10 points 3 months ago

I'm still sad that Markwayne didn't get his fascist fucking teeth knocked out on the senate floor

at 88, or how they call it in the senate: early retirement

[–] cheers_queers@lemm.ee 14 points 3 months ago

let's hope this is the beginning of a trend. like when all our favorite celebrities started dying. but this time it's fun.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

You shouldn't say anything about the dead unless it's good. So, he's dead. Good.

[–] dank@lemmy.today 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I can only hope Death hasn't left D.C. yet, but is just sharpening his scythe. In particular, there are a couple presidential candidates who are rotting on the vine.
