2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious right or left wing sources will be removed at the mods discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted seperately but not to the post body.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source.
Posts which titles don’t match the source won’t be removed, but the autoMod will notify you, and if your title misrepresents the original article, the post will be deleted. If the site changed their headline, the bot might still contact you, just ignore it, we won’t delete your post.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials or celebrity gossip is allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
7. No duplicate posts.
If a source you used was already posted by someone else, the autoMod will leave a message. Please remove your post if the autoMod is correct. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Ok but you do realize that it’s largely because of people like you who did it to be edgy and shit that it’s such a big problem now..? Like you get that, right?
Like sure some places overreact a bit, but that’s not really… justification? And it doesn’t absolve you of contributing to the problem we have now by making people scared by being a weirdo edgelord copycat for funsies.

It's the fucking media publishing their names, showing their head counts, discussing their strategy.
It's not edgy kids from 30 years ago. It's not Marilyn Manson, it's not Doom (or whatever this decades equivalent is - this lie has been going on every since the printing press spread. That's not hyperbole), it's the anything-for-ratings,-fuck-the-collective-welfare-news.
The news is also why we are so polarized politically.
NYT and WAPO put out original work, but it's all opinion pieces dressed up as journalism, aka propaganda.
You want to help change that? Stop watching the news. Read your news straight from AP or Rueters, whom they just republish 90% anyways.
These tragedies are from wayward kids distraught that they're growing up in a dog-eat-dog society that doesn't give two fucks about anything they think has value. When the hill seems too high, when all options lead to failure, when it's just too much , when you can't be famous, you can always be infamous.
It's the news giving them their glory and their desire to punish society. We need their names to die with them.

I don’t think I can help you if you honestly seriously believe the culture and shit from 30 years ago has nothing to do with today.
I’m not talking about Manson, I love Manson. I’m not talking about doom, I grew up playing doom and have literally every edition of it including vr. I don’t watch the news, I find sources I trust like a responsible adult. Don’t change the subject.
I’m talking about people making threats against their fellow students. That’s not a media phenomenon, it’s a whole snowballing of events, and all the little bullshit edgelord threats for funsies contribute to it.
I was in high school during Columbine, let me tell you first hand, NO ONE thought that shit was cool. Making comments about it would get kids removed. Fuck, I did my senior project on school violence, 125 pages with 18 graphs.
Everything about this entire topic sucks. I'm sure shit has changed in schools since my time but people are just people and we aren't that fucking complicated.
We've ALWAYS known what causes crime to rise, we just don't care to fix those issues. If the police were tasked with solving crime they'd have to tackle the root causes and that'd involve media campaigns, lobbying congress. Why do you think income inequality is a tracked statistic? Or the Gini coefficient? Just for funsies or maybe because built in corruption and wage slavery sprinkled with despair leads to violence? The media sells us this American mythos of meritocracy yet your future can be accurately predicted by what zip code you were born in.
The lie is that there isn't an underlying caste system and that there's reason to hope. That there's a decent chance you can rise above your birthrank. But you can't. And you won't. And it won't change until the middle class decides it can rule better than the current slate of rich people - like every other revolution in all of history outside Haiti - the singular one time the slaves won. Don't make light of it, we are tax chattle. It shouldn't be surprising that this breeds rebellion - especially during the time of our lives that rebellion is biologically programmed in. It's just the adults whose voices get heard swallowed the lie early on and can't even fathom an alternative exists. Maybe you're one of them. Idk. You said ur a responsible adult, I have no reason to disbelieve you.

America has chosen to sacrifice its children rather than address the issue, Sandy Hook should've made that clear to everyone. It's a monsterous choice, and not one I agree with. I say this as a gun owner even. When society makes it clear that it gives no fucks about you, a reasoned response is to return the favor. Adolescence famously don't have perfect reasoning.
As the adults, we should be anticipating this not ruminating biology and throwing up our hands in defeat.
I am a huge fan of jailing the parents of these kids for allowing the guns to fall into their hands. We need more of that. Enforce the responsibility. Maybe some of these fringe people will take it more seriously then. That would'nt have stopped Uvalde, but still.
No, it's a largely because of the kids shooting up schools.
Sane gun laws are the only reasonable response yet here we are 25 years later critiquing my stupid ass high school sense of humor instead of doing anything about it. but keep telling yourselves it's anything besides the kid with access to a gun, it saves the Onion writing a different article.
They're mad at you because you made jokes of a serious issue that only exists because the US is a dumb pace where guns have more rights than kids. If it were anywhere else it would just be an edgy joke. In the US it's like dressing up in an SS uniform to a Holocaust convention.... A little too edgy...
