These companies are faced with a stark choice: either they continue down their current path of extracting fossil fuels, or they face extinction. The transition to renewable energy sources is too great a leap for them to make, given their existing profit margins and business models.

It's like the disruption that Netflix brought to Blockbuster - someone comes along and says "let's forget about our profits and change everything we do!" But in reality, it's not that simple.

Nationalization is the only practical path forward here.

Prof Mark Howden, the director of the Australian National University Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions, said the sector’s net zero target is “effectively not possible”.

“It’s pretty well embedded in the public consciousness that red meat is high profile in terms of greenhouse gas emissions per serve,” Howden said.

“I suspect the industry saw this as a fundamental threat to their future … A few years ago everybody was kind of jumping on the net zero bandwagon without actually thinking through what it actually meant,” he said.

The CSIRO found the industry would fall short of meeting its net zero target, and instead recommended the adoption of a “climate-neutral” target that would require a reduction of methane emissions rather their complete elimination.

The UK government are set on eroding any right to protest that is left. Please do anything you can. I don't care what banner you do it under, just please do something.

Michel Forst, the UN Special Rapporteur on Environmental Defenders, has scalded the government for their draconian crackdown on any people trying to sound the alarm but as we've seen recently, there is no justice system and countries cannot and will not hold each-other to account. You can read his report here.

My colleagues and I are investigating this question in connection with manifestations of eco-anxiety (or climate anxiety) in adults aged 18 to 35.

A $50 (CAD) prepaid credit card will be drawn amongst participants. 💳

We are completely independent in conducting this study and are doing so on a volunteer basis. None of the researchers are receiving funds nor a salary from any video-game or other company.

This study is approved by the Research Ethics Board of the Faculty of Literature and Social Sciences of the University of Sherbrooke. 🎓

Thank you for your help! 🙂
