@DamnCatOnMyDesk does it work the same way following a Lemmy community work, though? because when you do that, you get every single comment made in that community boosted into your timeline. not optimal.

@zark yeah, Matrix is a federated protocol, but it's separate from the Fediverse.

and honestly, using Lemmy with a Mastodon account isn't a great experience currently. you can search for Lemmy communities on Mastodon and they'll show up as accounts that you can follow (for example, you can search for @technology), but they'll boost all the comments, not just posts, from that community to your Mastodon feed, so all you get is a huge mess. hopefully it gets refined in the future.
