The developers of Heroic are in regular contact with GOG employees, and they also get a cut from any GOG purchase made through the Heroic client.

How do you follow someone you discovered while browsing a foreign instance?

[–] HKayn@dormi.zone 1 points 1 month ago

The end result is still part of GOG's revenue going toward the development of Heroic.

It doesn't meet your high standard and that's okay. I prefer to count my blessings in this regard.

GOG is funding the FOSS Heroic Games Launcher through an affiliate partnership: https://heroicgameslauncher.com/donate

You legally didn't "own" your physical games either if you haven't noticed.

[–] HKayn@dormi.zone 8 points 1 month ago

It's not legally binding, since it isn't part of the user agreement you review when buying games on Steam.

When have they not had the full package on GOG?

[–] HKayn@dormi.zone 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There really is no difference. For almost all intents and purposes, GOG's offline installers can be treated the same way as physical CDs of way back then, with one of the only exceptions being that you cannot resell them.

Nowadays the Heroic Games Launcher is the preferred solution for downloading and running GOG games. It's a community-run project, but officially affiliated with GOG.

By now my GOG library has far exceeded my Steam library in size. I was surprised by how many games on my Steam wishlist are also on GOG.

For context, Steam is now forced to display this due to a new law passed in California: https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/26/24254922/california-digital-purchase-disclosure-law-ab-2426

Valve is not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts.

Hello everyone.

As you most likely have noticed, this community (along with some communities on other Lemmy instances) has become the target of a spam wave that quickly rose to prominence across the Fediverse: https://techcrunch.com/2024/02/20/spam-attack-on-twitter-x-rival-mastodon-highlights-fediverse-vulnerabilities/

For a while I thought staying alert and catching spam posts manually would be sufficient to weather the storm, but I was wrong. ~~Even when I managed to remove posts immediately, it appeared as if the federation of either removals or reports was delayed, as I kept receiving plenty of reports by members of foreign instances for posts I had already removed.~~

I'm aware this spam has negatively impacted many users who view !warframe@dormi.zone, some of which have understandably seen themselves forced to block this community to keep the spam off their feed. I took too long to take proper action, and I'm sorry.

A group of great Mastodon instance admins have managed to aggregate a list of instances that currently house the spam bots. As of now, dormi.zone blocks all instances found in this list. If you're at home on one of those instances and are now cut off from this community because of the block, please understand that this is currently the best option Lemmy by itself offers to contain these sorts of attacks.

In the future, I will try to set up an AutoModerator that should handle these attacks more efficiently. Recent IRL circumstances have left me with limited time to look after dormi.zone, and I'm thankful for your patience in these times.

EDIT: I have been informed by admins from other Lemmy instances that because of the specific moderation action I took (banning the spammers from this instance), post removals weren't federating, keeping the posts visible on some foreign instances. This is why I might have looked like I took days to remove some posts.

The end goal of this proposal is to build interoperability features into GitLab so that it’s possible on one instance of GitLab to open a merge request to a project hosted on an other instance, merging all willing instances in a global network.

To achieve that, we propose to use ActivityPub, the w3c standard used by the Fediverse. This will allow us to build upon a robust and battle-tested protocol, and it will open GitLab to a wider community.
