Debian 12 (bookworm):

  • Works without having to troubleshoot all the time - Check
  • Reliable - Check
  • Customize and install pretty much everything available - Half Check - Since the kernel is from 2022, you won't have the latest versions of some software (eg. KDE), and some features will not be available (eg. changing CPU operation mode)- Unless you develop applications for Linux, or need a specific feature, it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi! I'm looking for people who want to moderate this community. If you're interested, please contact me via the embedded form.

Rules have not yet been defined for this !. Besides the ones determined by the Fair Use Policy, consider the following points as the philosophy of the moderation team:

  • Users should not be mocked because of (unknowingly) providing wrong information or asking seemingly obvious questions.
  • All posts must be: 1. related to Linux 2. a question, tutorial or advice.

that doesn't even necessarily mean that, the thing could have imploded after they tried signaling

i don't normally like discussing on reddit because people are so fierce for no reason. seems this didn't change

judge as you want, I personally think that something periodic like that, in a commonly used by humans timeframe even, was coming from the thing. By now we'll never know tho

The sound was periodic though. Every 30min interval. One of the guys in the sub is a former marine member. Some other guy from the same marine was interviewed and said this type of signaling, with 30m intervals, was something taught in said marine.

the hypothesis that dogs learned some expressions to communicate better with humans makes sense, but some expressions like showing the teeth to express disapproval is present in various mammal populations

some of them are present in the mammal world, so I'd guess they are universal among humans, at least to a certain degree

kinda looks cool tho, just fridge it and good to go

The federation could be some sort of "democracy" - meaning that new servers should have to apply to join, and the choice would be up to all the other server owners. Otherwise spam servers will become a great issue. This is something that could be implemented later on, if done now it may slow down the growing curve.

In other words, I suggest the creation of a sub-federation that has this moderation system, the unmoderated wild would continue to exist. This would potentially create other issues tho, and it's something that needs a lot of thought put into.

Maybe it would be better to implement features in lemmy that detect suspicious servers and automatically blacklists them. Maybe creating sub-federations would mess up even more the ecosystem.

But the bots most likely exist in huge amounts here and in other consolidated servers too and IMO thats the biggest problem. Reddit has a shitton of features designed to mitigate the bot issue. It's one of the hardests things to solve in current internet.

they're waiting to use the bots when the community is large, over a long period of time. This way it'd be hard to detect the bots.

Unfortunately I don't have much faith in this social network until the bot issue is addressed. There is a huge contingent of spambots just waiting for their moments here.
