There's a ton of Voyager episodes of "a few crew are captured and they're working for this other set of people out here!" But those are generally not a view of another well-developed culture since they're in such foreign territory.

The technology is a side-effect. The thing the Vulcans want to teach is their philosophy.

I mean Starfield, for all its many flaws, tracks local time for your current plant and location and universal time. Didn't see why that wouldn't be the standard. Anyone who only interacts locally only knows the one, but most people just always have two clocks that don't match.

Of the finished property, probably. A property with a giant, abandoned project on it isn't worth nearly as much.

You know that old E=mc² equation? That's actually only the simplified "rest" half of it. The full equation that relativity gives us says E²=m²c⁴+p²c². Meaning if it has energy, it definitely has mass (m), momentum (p), or both.

For a massless particle like a photon, that means E=pc, and its momentum is proportional to its energy and therefore frequency/wavelength.

They're just going to write all the articles in lojban.

It's about taking money from people who like spaceships.

Okay I did some math. If the gun shot a single photon with all the energy of a .50BMG from an M2 heavy machine gun, it would have about 1.2e-4 Ns of momentum. For reference, the bullet it's compared to would have 38.3 Ns. So the photon has about 32000 times less momentum than a bullet. Do with that what you will.

I know it's playing the syntactic role of a noun, that's what I said. But it's playing the semantic role of a descriptor. The "thing" being described here is a suspect, one that is white and also male, as opposed to a male who is white and also suspected.

Syntactically, the word male was a noun. But semantically, it's still just describing the suspect, rather than identifying the thing to be described.

He's not quite as bad as all that. He's an ass, but he's self aware enough to at least see when he'll be perceived as the unreasonable one and back off. I honestly don't have much of a relationship with him at all at this point, beyond saying hi and bye. My family has what most would consider a big get together every week, my nine siblings mostly showing up with their double digits of kids, all hanging out and having dinner. Without that, I lose a rather large portion of my small introverted social circle.

Mostly, I'll stick with going when I'm comfortable and leaving when I feel disrespected. It's shitty, but it's something. And I can continue growing my circle elsewhere too. Joined a game night group, I see my friends from next city over every now and again. I'll do okay.

Yeah, but if I ask a third grader which way is right, they'll know and they won't be able to tell you why. This is normal.

It's called "capitalism". You should avoid it if you can.
