In your android settings, go to network & internet > advanced > private DNS and paste the link dns.adguard-dns.com into the box. All ads will assume you have no Internet connection. Doesn't appear to work on YouTube, but covers anything from the Google Play store banners/videos/etc.

This looks 100% normal on mobile. What platform are you using?

"Female" as an adjective describes gender.

"Female" as a noun is typically used by incel communities to refer to a woman as an object, not a person. In this context, it is either used to identify women as a sex object or to imply that her emotions/needs/feelings don't matter because she's not human. Coded language in English is called a dog whistle, meaning it's a secret way for someone to say how they really feel when an idea isn't socially acceptable.

These giant images you keep using contribute nothing and make it harder to read a thread. Kinda funny that you're the one posting "shit advice award" and "blocked" when the only thing you're contributing is a bad attitude.

The two big risks with jailbreaking are:

  1. You're running an old operating system that's missing modern security updates.
  2. Any app you install or website you visit has easier access to your root files, as opposed to the "sandbox" approach for a non jailbroken device.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything that requires your banking or personal info. This device should get its own apple account and if you need to pay for something, use a gift card. Only use jailbroken apps from trusted sources - after all this time, most sources that are malicious for older app versions should be easily identifiable with a little research. There is also iSecureOS which can check if you downloaded something bad or have a third party connected to your device.

The internet itself isn't a risk, it's what you do with it. Don't use your device for general web browsing, don't use the device outside of your home, don't use the internet after the device is set up, and use iSecureOS regularly to check the health of your device. As long as it is set up correctly and you're only using the iPad for one specific project, it should be fine.

If you have questions about how to jailbreak or where you can safely find apps, I'd recommend checking out https://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/

Wait, THAT was the issue? (I thought it was another program that got sold, and the new owner bundled it with malware or something.) Is there something wrong with MuseGroup? I've been using MuseScore for ages.

Jailbreaking allows full access, so you can sideload and there's an alternate app store called Cydia. Sometimes jailbreaking instructions will include installing it, or you may need to install it separately. You'll also need legacy iTunes. I haven't worked on anything quite that old but there are some YouTube tutorials still floating around.

I don't think jailbreaking would allow you to upgrade your operating system, but you could download/install apps yourself instead of using the app store. That would allow you to use older apps that meet your system specs.

When I Google "how to jailbreak iPad 1" there's lots of results. Is it a problem with the operating system being too old?

As long as she makes a little offering of pancakes to her god afterwards, it's all good.

Would anyone be interested in a comic book community? It seems like the other comic communities are being camped on by "mods" with empty accounts. I'm not sure if @literature.cafe would allow a majorily image based group.

Martha and John Kent may not have changed the world, but Superman sure did

I love the new tag feature. So far I've seen:

  • YOU
  • OP
  • ADMIN
  • BANNED

I'm wondering what that last one means though. Did the person get banned after writing that comment, or is it a warning that they're banned elsewhere? Did I accidentally block a user?

Recently saw this and wanted to share. Even if you're not in the market for industrial equipment, there's lots here for the average person. There's Juki sewing machines, giant ladders, servers, fancy office furniture, conveyor belts, trucks, band saws, just all sorts of stuff. Most of it is at $10 or less!

There are a lot of communities I haven't subscribed to since there were only 1-2 other users. I've also noticed that some communities started out strong and seemed to practically die.

But today I was looking for a community and searched through lemmy.world instead of my own instance. Turns out the subscribers never left - I just can't see them. For example:

  • if I search !dccomics@lemmy.ml using my home instance on liftoff, I see 2 subscribers
  • if I look up the same community using lemmy.world, I see 58 subscribers
  • if I look up the community in Google (not logged in), I see 58 subscribers
  • if I click on the !dccomics@lemmy.ml link in my own post, I see 110 subscribers
  • if I search using my home instance for new communities, say !curatedtumblr@sh.itjust.works , there's 1 subscriber and no posts
  • if I access !curatedtumblr@sh.itjust.works through my saved committees list, I can see posts

I've noticed the same issues on !lemmy.world and !sh.itjust.works , but I can only say that for sure because I know those instances should have more traffic. I don't think my instance has defederated with theirs.

Does anyone know of this is an issue with liftoff, lemmy, or simple defederation?

I've been having issues with searching, and realized this is connected. So when I search for communities through @lemmy.world I can find them just fine. But if I use my home instance @lemmy.blahaj.zone they're missing - even though I know we're not defederated. It turns out if I make posts on other instances, those posts won't show up on my profile.

After the hack my instance changed it's token (?) Which requires logging in again to comment/post. But when I viewed my profile, my posts were there! Then when I logged in they were gone again. I don't know anything about how apps work, but something with how it retrieves instance data is messing with features.

I'm a very light sleeper, so I have blackout stickers on my bedroom window. (They're vinyl sheets that stick to the inside of the window with water.) I've used these most of my life with no issue. Well, I moved from the city and my new place is in a wooded area. I'm hearing birds and squirrels bonk into the window because they think it's a little cave or something. With the heatwave it's now multiple times a DAY. I opened my window today and there's actually a small pile of dead bodies on the ground. I feel awful.

Is there anything I could do to help these animals understand my window is a black wall and not a cave?

I haven't updated my music instrument library in years, especially since newer official software doesn't play well with pirated plugins. The last time I downloaded VSTs was 2012ish, back when PB and KAT were still good sources. Music technology (and the instruments people like to listen to) have taken a huge leap since then. I do mostly pop and jazz, so I've got East West, Session Horns, Session Strings, Broadway Big Band, Kontact, and a couple miscellaneous Native Instruments plugins. Does anyone know of production level VST sources for newer versions of these or better software?

My apartment complex is very dog friendly. It's just shy of 100 units and I'd guess around 80% of people have at least one dog. I'm one of those people that doesn't - but only because I can't handle having a pet with my work schedule right now.

So needless to say I see a lot of dogs in the hallways. Every time I cross paths with one, they stand in my way and expect pets. No matter how much their owner tugs on their leash and calls their name, they'll stand firm. They won't jump, or bark, or do anything bad, but they won't move! The only thing that works is to give them a pat on the head and tell them what a good boy/girl they are. Then they wag their tail and go on their merry way.

I don't know how this culture started, but it's been around a lot longer than I have. Every dog knows if they meet someone in the hallway, they're gonna get pets. So they wait. And you gotta, it's the rule.
