A SolarPunk Manifesto

Basic Rules:

be constructive: there is no need of another internet space full of competition, negativity, rage etc.;
no bigotry, including racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia or xenophobia;
be empathic: empathy is more rebellious than a middle finger;
no porn and no gore: let's keep this place easy to manage;
no ads / spamming / flooding, we don't want to buy/consume your commodified ideas;
occasional self-promotion by active members is fine.

I just discovered a solar project run by my electrical provider, that allows me to pay for a number of grids, and will offset my usage and electric bills. This is a multi-state large publicly traded electric company, not a fly-by-night outfit. Essentially, this is similar to having my own panels, and being plugged in to sell excess kWs, but the panels are in their solar farm, managed, and maintained by the electric company. The break-even is 12 years, and the life is 20 years. The breakdown risks are insured by them. The negatives are that at exactly 20 years, I would have to do it again.

You are the experts. Are there other risks that I do not see?

After being hosted by the Lemmy devs since March 2022 (thx!), I finally got around moving this instance to my own server today.

It is a quite beefy server (8core 32gb RAM) currently shared with a few other services provided by F-hub.org (still somewhat under construction).

Registrations are also open again (with admin approval) and I will try to approve them ASAP during the coming days.
