Here in the USA, freedom is measured in Freedom Units, colloquially called "dollars."

being able to openly be a raging fascist conservative without anyone complaining about it.

thats what freedom is right?

Actually it’s about ethics in gaming journalism.

random word associations with a theme lol. There's a lot of cross ties between breastmilk and gaming/freedom/raging fascists etc. If I had a nickel...well it would be just a few of them but still weird that it happens.

Action unrestrained by threats of violence or other coercion.

[-] JustJack23 2 points 3 weeks ago

What about my freedom to apply violence and coercion?

[-] Wes4Humanity@lemm.ee 7 points 3 weeks ago

This is why absolute freedom can never exist as long as there are at least 2 people in existence... Either they must both give up their freedom to harm the other, or soon there will only be 1 person left, maybe 0.

Having a strong central government, answerable to an educated populace. All necessary services are nationalized. Corporations are not people

[-] xilliah@beehaw.org 1 points 3 weeks ago

Can you share what you imagine?

I’m having trouble formulating this coherently because I’m tired and have adhd but here goes. I think that by curtailing the absolute freedom of an individual you can give more actual freedom to more people. Essentially that the government isn’t the only place you should fear tyranny from. A strong government can prevent small tyrants from running roughshod over others. Eg don’t let someone/corps dump waste, this denies people clean water, natural beauty, etc. Robust social programs funded by aggressive taxation mean more people have the freedoms that health brings, freedom of movement via extensive public transport. It also should allow us to tackle big problems that need a lot of coordination, such as climate change

An improved UK, nationalize water companies, fund the NHS, nationalize public transport. Economic opportunity for the North, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

What do you think of how our democracies handle minorities?

Being able to have things in life happen on your own terms.

Absolute freedom would be the ability to do whatever one wants to do whenever one wants to do it. However, the laws of physics and biology get in the way pretty quickly. So that leaves us with absolute freedom within the laws of the universe. However, it's only possible to have this absolute freedom so long as there is only 1 person in existence. As soon as you add a second person, both must agree to forgo the freedom to harm the other, or soon enough there will only be 1 or 0 people left.

In a society, the closest we can get to freedom is allowing people to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't effect anyone else. Once it effects others, they should get a say in it, otherwise the person doing the stuff has more freedom than the people being effected by it. This is where we actually are.

Taking a huge, absolutely gut-tension relieving dump, the kind that angels sing and your ears pop afterwards, in a handicap accesible toilet somewhere you either work, or go to classes, that was just recently cleaned and unused by anyone.

Truly, a freedom so free the founding fathers would weep!

[-] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 weeks ago

As Kris Kristofferson wrote, and Janis Joplin sang,"Freedom's just another word, for nothing left to lose."

[-] xilliah@beehaw.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

So you must first lose everything?

Freedom is a state in which a person’s input into their life has significant effects on the outcomes. Freedom is a state in which taking responsibility is a possibility.

[-] Dontfearthereaper123@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Thats not freedom? That concept in practice would be. I can work, if I do then I'll have money. However, if I dont work, I die from lack of money. The way I'd see freedom is, u can work or not and eitherway u dont die. Yk your free to choose what you want or in this case free to make the inputs desire
