Everything will be consumed by the US election and whatever conflict arises as a result. This will result in the first organized broader scope violence since the 1860's. I expect a Kennedy level conspiracy type event that will shape the next decade or more. Getting the guy out of office resulted in a failed coup, and the man is not in jail or dead. That alone shows that the country is dead in the water. This is like Brexit; fuck around and find out how much worse in can be. It was the same with Hitler. Inaction makes it worse because it emboldens monsters. Either way, now is the time to become a tin foil hat vender.

Dang, I was thinking companies using vaccines to put ads in our anuses, but you're probably right.

[–] Vej@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

Woah mine is advertising Spaghetti O's or Cheerios! It also makes cool sounds, but It's bass is turned up too high. Sometimes it provides free samples, but I don't recommend them, as they taste like shit. Not that I would know what shit tastes like.

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Can't see the ad if it's blocked by a tongue!

[–] bpalmerau@aussie.zone 1 points 7 months ago

No I like yours better.

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

All right, shut it down. @ArugulaZ has officially won.

This years hurricane season, which is predicted to be the worst of the past 20 years at least.

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

It will almost certainly be the worst year in recorded history. We have pretty much had non-stop record breaking temperatures since July last year.

What does an eclipse have to do with conspiracies?

[–] kboy101222@sh.itjust.works 31 points 7 months ago

Honestly, save yourself the brain rot.

If you must know, right wing nut jobs have started saying this is the second coming or some such other insane shit

[–] jbrains@sh.itjust.works 21 points 7 months ago (1 children)

A solar eclipse has been interpreted as a harbinger of doom since the dawn of time. The conspiracy theory is merely a modern evolution of this trend.

[–] BreakDecks@lemmy.ml 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They happen about once every 18 months, and people seem to keep their cool about it. Last time we had one in the US the biggest news was that Trump stared directly at it without eye protection.

[–] Bitrot@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 7 months ago

The pandemic, qanon, the big lie, probably a bunch of other things turned many somewhat normal people into science denialist conspiracy theorists, even people who weren’t traditional conservatives. If you are a science denialist you need something else to explain the world around you, conveniently there are many myths surrounding eclipses.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah this was my first thought too. What conspiracy theories about the eclipse?

[–] Trollivier@sh.itjust.works 15 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (3 children)
[–] borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Damn. There was literally a partial (full? idk partial for me at least) eclipse in the US during Trump’s term, which is how we got that amazing image of that fucking loser staring straight at the sun. Why do these inbred fucks thing this is eclipse is any different than any other eclipse that has happened?

Unrelated question, does anyone know if eclipse glasses expire? I’ll search this on my own but was curious.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

The glasses shouldn't expire, at least not so quickly. But scratches might render them unusable.

Edit: See https://youtu.be/luTU6VFWeYY?t=5m24s

[–] borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 7 months ago

Thanks for that video, I’ll check my shit tomorrow to make sure they’re still good, that way I’ll still have a day to make one of those pinhole slit viewer things if they’re not. Also JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THAT LAST ECLIPSE WAS SEVEN YEARS AGO WHAT.

[–] Moonguide@lemmy.ml 9 points 7 months ago

Man... I'm feeling better every day about leaving Reddit, and most other social media, for that matter. What the fuck is wrong with people.

[–] Corno@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

Don't tell him that palm trees often bend at an angle towards each other and form an X shape. There are people who have a fear of the number 13 and it's known as triskaidekaphobia. This person seems to have something similar but with the letter X.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The wildfires this summer. Our changing climate is a perennial one.

Or it’ll be shit like trans people existing or something like that

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Probably gonna spread some bullshit that the wildfires were started from the government using new orbital laser technology or something equally ridiculous.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 3 points 7 months ago

So last year.

A flat disc for sure and we always see the same side πŸ’‘

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

The other side has a giant profile on it.

[–] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 7 months ago

I think we've got a lot of unspent AI apocalypse steam we need to use up.

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They have started putting vaccines in cows so everyone is maxvaxed through spike proteins in the milk.

[–] Nebula224@lemmy.ml 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Damnnnn that's a good one. Would be so funny if trump loving conspiracy theorists suddenly went vegan

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 3 points 7 months ago

I have a warehouse full of UHT Milk bottled in 2018, DM me if interested.

[–] Maeve@kbin.social 8 points 7 months ago

Increase in natural disaster due to global warning.

[–] LopensLeftArm@sh.itjust.works 7 points 7 months ago

Honestly, with Israel at war, I'm amazed we're not seeing more crazy endtimes nonsense from the evangelicals than we already are. Probably it's only because the description of the Antichrist in their Left Behind understanding of how it's expected to go down reminds them a little too uncomfortably of the person currently dominating their voter demographic.

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

Still Trump

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

They have already been going at it on tiktok talking about why so many county's declaring state of emergency based on recomendations from homeland security or some shit and start thinking some other event will take place which will be catastrophic

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Idk has any country allowed Americans to declare refugee status yet?

(half /s)

[–] Ziggurat@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 months ago

it's already hard for Afghan, Syrian or Palestinian to get the refugee status.

Also, even though US has a lot of issue, it's not like the rest of the west is doing that much better. In several European countries, far right parties are doing high score with the same kind of bullshit has US republicans, I've even saw a video of french "sovereign citizens interacting with the police recently". The billionaire hoarding all the wealth isn't only an US problem (Even though due to your *taxation is theft myth, it may be worse).

We tend to import all the bad stuff from US, but a decade latter :(

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

The april 9th eclipse

[–] Ziggurat@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 months ago (2 children)

There is at least 2 eclipse per years, so I don't see why this one would specifically generate conspiracy theories over all the others.

People will do prediction that will realize by default (Earthquake, people dying, and so on) and claim to have super power, same shit as usual

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

Because this one is going over America, and Americans think the world revolves around them. In this case more literally than usual.
