I was thinking instead of a /r/lostredditors that makes fun of bad posting choices there could be a community that could allow more experienced users to offer advice on the best community to post in. Maybe something slightly silly like...idk, /c/fedditorsearchparty?

I've had need of something like this more than once. For instance, I saw a cool little statue in an HDR walker video on YouTube recently. It was cute and made me happy and I wanted to share it, but I had no idea where to post it. There are so many communities across so many instances now.

Does this sound interesting or helpful? Or maybe something like this already exists!

Thanks in advance for your input. Have a nice weekend!

Edit: Many thanks to kersploosh@sh.itjust.works who pointed out existing community !nowhereelsetoshare@sh.itjust.works.

Edit #2: Thanks to RobotToaster@mander.xyz who pointed out existing community !lemmy411@lemmy.ca.

Edit #3: Thanks to Otter@lemmy.ca who pointed out existing community !communitypromo@lemmy.ca. Asking for posting advice is allowed per the sidebar. ๐Ÿ‘

New avatar no? Looks nice :)

Thank you :)

I liked the colors, so it felt like time to swap it

I would very much benefit from a place where I can ask where to ask!

Maybe use !nowhereelsetoshare@sh.itjust.works? The community sidebar seems close what you are looking for:

I didnโ€™t know which community to post something in and so here we are.

Please comment if you know a more appropriate community for a post.

Ah yes ty ty! That is more or less what I had in mind. I may post my little statue picture in there. :D

No, this is it. AskLemmy is the place to ask until it becomes to large.

[โ€“] Curious_Canid@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 months ago

That seems like a good idea to me.

Maybe a community that would lead users to blogs, social pages, or other websites where specific kind of content is promoted for sharing?

[โ€“] sgibson5150 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I'm not sure I understand. Could you give me a concrete example?

[โ€“] Yots92@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

A community similar to "There is an AI for that", whereupon, instead of listing free\paid websites to do stuff with AI (like removing background music or voices from a video, keeping only the sounds effects), there is a website\subreddit where the best websites for certain type of content are listed and categorized

[โ€“] Pyroglyph@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

This feels unnecessary. Users will nearly always correct people who post in the wrong place.

A wiki or a meta-megathread would probably be a better fit for something like this. Like a Yellow Pages for communities.
