"Ronald Reagan has won the Presidential Election" was pretty terrifying.

[–] BeanGoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Yeah but that's seven words.

"President Ronald Reagan" is three; three and seven average out to five.

I knew I shouldn't have dropped out of statistics

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

Well, that adds up.

  1. we've - contractions are still a single word
  2. improved
  3. our
  4. mobile
  5. app

5 (five) words...

Original quote was "nine" and "I'm with the government and I'm here to help."

Which is exactly the kind of thing you want to hear from the leader of the government.

It's a perfectly reasonable thing to say if your campaign and ideology hinges on you rooting out the corruption in government. It's a way of capturing the idea of the corruption that you want to fix.

Like all Republican messages in the last 60 years or so, it's bullshit, but there's nothing ironic about it.

government indeed bad when it's ran by fascists

[–] HerrBeter@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Gubernment good

Also, when the hell does anyone from the government show up to say that? If I need them to help me, I contact them. If they're contacting me, it's because they're helping someone else (employees, crime victims, the public).

[–] tubaruco@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

thanks for clarifying. i did not know contractions counted as one word

[–] name_NULL111653@pawb.social 3 points 9 months ago

Yep. English is a very hard language (and I say this as a native speaker who, caring about proper grammar, still struggles with it).

Putting nice words in the mouth of the root of most Americans' problems seems kinda cringe.
