This presupposes that I am paying any attention to them, rather than trying to block, skip or otherwise avoid them - which is what I am usually doing.

That doesn't answer the question.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

No, but it gave them a chance to remind everyone that they block ads. Now that the ads are gone, they have to reach out for other forms of interaction.

You can't lose what you weren't following in the first place.

"I don't see ads" does directly answer the question "Have you seen ads which X?"

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

The bigger problem is many times I have zero clue what they are advertising. No joke. Until they say the name at the end , I’m just clueless what they want to try to sell me.

Definitely, the biggest offenders was a youtube ad that was of a girl in front of a computer, like a streamer drinking out of a metal bottle. It was completely silent, it went on for ages and there was absolutely no brand names or anything like that at all, it wasn't sexuall or risky. It was just the most average girl, drinking from the most average metal bottle, in the most average room. No words was spoken, nothing was shown, it was so weird.

We need more ads like this.

I have seen a few like that, and I can't even tell you what they were or what they were for even now because it was just a super confusing drama with no brand, no product, no message, and no real reason to exist.

I've seen plenty of confusing commercials that became clear at the end when they reveal a product or show the name of a business or whatever to actually advertise a thing to you. But then there are these that have no context, no information, and just leave you wondering why someone paid to have it run on TV.

Every perfume ad.

All ads from the various companies that have hired Matthew McConaughey to teach me the art of zen or something.

No but I've seen post titles that are confusing and don't make sense because the poster doesn't read and puts words together like it's just for fun. I assume your subject is TV show, so have you seen ads where you lost the plot of the show you're watching, because the ad was confusing? Boom right off the bat. What the fuck is wrong with you

[–] MonsterMonster@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Most of those on YouTube. I find the latest Apple ad is graphically confusing to the eye with too much going on.

Possible that this doesn't count because it's 16 minutes long and made by David Lynch, but Lady Blue Shanghai probably wins this category :-)

Advertising has plots? Pretty sure porn has more plot than ads.
