MetaFilter is a 21 year old noncorporate social media community that has taken its culture and moderation very seriously. Scanning the questions of their FAQ is probably the quickest way to look for anything that might be worth consideration.

If you happen to have about 600000 hours of time to spare for reading everything that's been written about that subject on metatalk you could probably learn quite a lot about moderation best practices.

You might start with What does 'threadshitting' mean?

Threadshitting is either early snark, noise, "who cares" or joke comments in a newish MeFi thread or someone repeatedly making off-topic or noise comments in a thread often as a way of derailing discussion. Early threadshitting comments are frequently deleted.
