Back in my reddit days, there was a guy who did AMAs about vacuum cleaners that was actually incredibly informative. After talking and analyzing many machines, he suggested s couple vacuums. For my needs we got a Miele canister C1. It wasn't cheap, but 8 years later it is doing very well. No fancy circuit board, straightforward, solid manufacturing, 8 year warranty, a dial controller for the suction. No problems at all. Probably will last another 20 years. It's a great machine and has paid for it by not needing replacements. The closest thing to a complaint is that I wish the cord was about 1.5 -2m longer so I didn't need to unplug it to change outlets 2/3 of the way through, mostly because I'm lazy.

Real talk. Miele appliances are legit. Pricy, but they last forever.

Although their “smart” appliances have the worst UIs of all time.

I just recently took the dive into their appliances, I got the C1 blizzard canister vac with the power head. Their washer and heat pump dryer and I'm probably going to pick up a dishwasher from them as well. It's definitely difficult spending over $1,000 on a vacuum and then walking through Costco and seeing piles of them for 300 to 400. But I am having faith in everything I've read from both users and technicians that this vacuum is basically going to outlive me and any children I may have.

It's definitely very powerful, more than any other vacuum I've had. And yet it's also one of the most quiet vacuums I've ever had so I definitely enjoy that

I recently grabbed W1/T1 washer / dryer. Grabbed them because I did a remodel, the contractors measured wrong, and I couldn’t fit my old LG units in my laundry space.

If you’re tight on space, they’re pretty dope. That said, I do miss having larger units.

That was Don't Touch my Fucking Coffee. Classic.

looking at pictures of canister vacuums, I wonder why the form factor isn't more popular. It seems incredibly convenient since you don't need to always be pushing the heavy motor around.

[–] rainerloeten@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

It's the default in Germany I think. At least it used to be, knew no one who had something different as a child. Just a bit less convenient to store as they're a bit bigger.

Meanwhile in the Netherlands, that's the only type you really saw. No one I know used anything else, until recently when motors became small enough.

I bought one after reading those posts (second hand). It was great, but unfortunately I broke the hose and after trying and failing to replace it I gave up and bought a different vacuum.

Not sure what it's availability is like outside the UK but numatic Henry vacuums are cheap, simple, easily repairable and robust. If you don't mind the silly smiley face in the front it's a great option.

Woah that's the same we have (I got it from my parents as a hand me down). I have a weird relationship with it. I hate it. It is bulky, loud (well ok I mean it is a vacuum cleaner), heavy, and big. But then whenever I use another one at some other place I just cannot believe how awful and dysfunctional they are. So I guess the Miele is good and I just don't like the fact it is a vacuum cleaner.

Filter Queen is the only US manufacturer that I know of that makes a decent canister. And also has a very simple circuit. Cord to switch to motor. Also pricey but that fucker just doesn't quit. I know people that have had one for 20 years, and other than a slight design change in the last decade, they all mostly use identical parts.

Where is the central vacuum system?

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

And what about the vacuum of infinite space?

They probably hate Dyson the same way PC fans hate Apple

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Name a single AAA game available for Dyson.

[–] clearleaf@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I just want to turn on my vacuum cleaner and use it, not spend all day setting up the filters and attachments like you freaks out there.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah but sometimes we get a little bit lonely...

[–] StellarExtract@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

I kinda enjoy it, it's like a big lego set except before putting it back together you have to dig out a bent paperclip covered in cat hair

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 10 months ago

They must really like vacuum cleanser.

[–] bfg9k@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

[–] kogasa@programming.dev 3 points 10 months ago

Missing the false vacuum which is a hypothesized universal apocalypse scenario that will clean this world of the scourge of life

[–] BillyTheSkidMark@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The vacuum cleaner I currently have and have always have, it's not on here and now I'm confused... Or is that what is called a "cannister vacuum"?

[–] Inktvip@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Searching for that Miele C1 canister that's being talked about and it's one of those wheeled ones you pull along behind you.

To me that's just the standard type of vacuum that literally everyone has except for the few flashy gits that have a cordless 'upright' one.

[–] Pantherina@feddit.de 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Where are like... normal vaccum cleaners and those cool ones that can suck water?
