That would be a murder, and yes, it's social.

It's not a jackdaw nor a magpie, it's a hooded crow. And to the OP, I recommend befriending crows, I now have my own air support.

Holy shit. You are correct and living up to your name. I didn't even know about that species. When I first saw your response I thought you were just fucking around and continuing the joke. Just looks a lot like the magpies that are plentiful in my area. But the grey versus white definitely sets them apart. Thanks sacredbirdman. Any other cool bird facts to share?

I also recommend befriending crows. And magpies.

They live in Scandinavia and Europe east of Germany, so you probably never saw them if you're not from those parts. Where I am, the hooded crow is the default crow you find everywhere. Magpies are smaller, have a more solid colour and tails that are pretty much as long as they are.

And they're skittish as hell. I leave food out for magpies on my balcony and they eat there on a daily basis, but whenever they see me through the windows or god forbid on the balcony, they immediately fly away like 300m.

Well, I'm not sure if these are cool but I find them pretty cool :D Crows, unline many other animals, recognize humans by their faces like we do and they can remember at least dozens of individuals. They stash food in different places. Sometimes crows spy on others and go steal food from their stashes. Those who have gotten their food stolen will move their stashes. Crows can also use tools.

And you have generational air support. Older generations will teach the younger ones that you are a friend.

Marge Simpson: [Homer is naming off the crows in his bedroom] Homer, I'm not sure I'm comfortable sleeping with a group of crows in the bedroom in the night.

Homer Simpson: It's a murder, honey. A group of crows is called a murder.

Marge Simpson: I'm going to go sleep on the couch tonight.

Crowbros for life

To be fair, bringing your two pet crows to the city's public family meadow is a great conversation starter.
