genuinely I can't tell cars apart if they are produced after ~2000, when they used to have so much character before that

I have a 2015 Tacoma, I can tell other 2015s and if a Tacoma is new e or older than mine and that is about it.

Can hardly tell the differences (if there are any) bc none of the fronts or backs are side by side.

Plus the changing colors

If it ain't broke don't fix it

Gotta love timeless designs.

So, the taillights with the reflectors that were the little asterisks were gone by 1962? Those were not uncommon when I was young. I had always liked them.

Hey, other than being a death trap on wheels* it was a design that worked. Why fix what ain't broken.

  • based on my memories of what the interiors were like, I imagine they weren't safe at all in a crash.

As someone who owned an '82 bug that I loved like no other car I've owned, I was going to tell you to do something, but reading your username I guess you already did it.

I loved the cars. I had a college classmate had an old school VW bus. Such fond memories. I didn't mean to disparage the bug. More like I think about old cars vs how new cars are built vis a vis safety.

Yeah, I imagine the bus, without anything in front of the driver to absorb any impact energy, is probably less safe than the average old car.

The bug on the other hand, with its engine at the rear and light build, has quite a good crumple zone to protect the passengers, probably better than average at the time, even if the front wasn't specifically designed for that purpose.

I used it mostly in city traffic, I doubt I or my family were in any danger.

Of course we’re all here not mentioning that the 67 was the best ever …

I keep thinking I might get a 1303 at some point, But I have enough projects on right now. Most likely will end up with one eventually though, That or a mini.
