22 years? Yeah that is disheartening.

There are several states in the South and Midwest that possession of marijuana can land you life in prison. That's potentially a 70 year sentence for a young adult.

Yet these jackasses can attempt to overthrow the US Government and install an unelected dictator and the longest sentence we've seen yet is only 22 fucking years?

Yeah it is disheartening to see the hundreds that got off with house arrest, probation, or even at best landed behind bars for only a year or so.

Can’t believe the sentencing for weed is still so strong. Like who gives a fuck, just legalize the shit already. I think that most of us can agree that alcohol has just as much of not more potential for harm than weed does and that’s legal.

[–] flipht@kbin.social 54 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not only is alcohol legal, it was made legal again after its own failed prohibition.

[–] Telorand@kbin.social 16 points 1 year ago

Yes, but have you considered that if we legalize weed, Satan might get your kids?

[–] MxM111@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That’s because Jesus drank wine but did not smoke a joint.

[–] nueonetwo@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Moses was burning that bush all night though

Groups of people who like weed being illegal; Police unions, private prison owners, beer/wine/spirit producers, pharmaceutical companies, cartels, private rehab clinics

Attempting a coup = not the good guy

[–] NounsAndWords@lemmy.world 137 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's framing. For the next coup. Because there will be a next one. The Nazis didn't win their first coup either.

Hitler was only sentenced to 5 years in prison despite being convicted of treason. He lived in comfort and wrote his famous book there.

The 60-day, nine-month, and time-served sentences make a mockery of justice and a tragedy of history. 20 years is about right if not a bit lenient for plotting what would have gotten someone hanged, drawn, and quartered at the time of our country's founding.

Hitler was only sentenced to 5 years in prison despite being convicted of treason. He lived in comfort and wrote his famous book there.

Just to add on to that. He served 9 months and was released on good behaviour. A reminder he spent those 9 months writing a manifesto that promoted genocide. I hope we can learn from history.

Smashes a Capitol policeman with the riot shield you stole off of him. We are the good guys!

Can you imagine the timeline if she were VP?

[–] Pratai@lemmy.ca 48 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It’s hard enough for me to imagine a timeline where she’s relevant.

[–] NateNate60@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same here. It seems she just pops up every so often, says something stupid, then disappears again into the woodwork.

Conservative women need to keep their mouth shut and stay in the kitchen. There are bible quotes on this. Every time they speak in public the only response should be

KJV: "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

RSV: "I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

GNB: "I do not allow them to teach or to have authority over men; they must keep quiet."

I wanna see hundreds of replies to every tradwife politicians with these every time they speak and I wanna see reporters repeat these instead of asking questions. If they want rights and be treated with respect, ditch the religion and trad shit and join the rest of us in the future.

[–] Baphomet_The_Blasphemer@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago (10 children)

How about we start calling them out on all the foolish things the Bible forbids, but they ignore and do anyway such as:

  • Wearing clothing made of blended fabrics - leviticus 19:19

  • Wearing ripped or torn clothing - leviticus 10:6

  • Eating shellfish - leviticus 11:10

  • Eating pork - leviticus 11:4

  • No short hair cuts, and no shaving beards - leviticus 19:27

  • No tattoos or piercings - leviticus 19:28

  • No alcohol in church - leviticus 10:9

  • No working on the sabbath - leviticus 23:3

  • No divorce - mark 10:9

  • No wearing jewelry - timothy 2:9

  • No lying - leviticus 19:11

  • Don't mistreat foreigners - leviticus 19:33-34

  • Buying or selling land - leviticus 25:23

I could honestly do this all day as there are so very many things to write here, but I feel this is sufficient to demonstrate my point.

Don't let these people use their faith as justification to be terrible humans until they follow every word "written" by their infallible god in their hypocritical self contradictory book that none of them have actually read.

Scary, but true: There are conservative women who have gone on record saying they'd be OK with exactly this. And if you attempt to make this argument in front of a conservative, the only thing they're going to hear is this: "The bible says that women must be silent. Therefore we also need to repeal women's right to vote."

Remember, this all started when some (probably nonexistent) trans kids in North Carolina wanted to use a different bathroom. Similar arguments were made and rather than the GOP come to their senses, they just kept doubling down and used it as a launch point for their culture wars. They basically answered every question like that with "We'll ban that too!"

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 81 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why are Republicans calling people that directly attacked and killed people in the hallowed halls of the Capital building "the good guys"?

[–] Soulg@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Because they're tribal partisan hacks. The only thing they care about is them VS everyone else

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're almost there. It's because they're liars (the politicians / boosters). Tribalism is reserved for their base. The leaders are cynical af.

You think Tucker is genuinely perplexed by the issues he talks about with interviewees? Don't worry, that's a rhetorical question. I know Lemmy users aren't idiots. Just making a point.

Sarah Palin has always been a fucking airhead, and fuck John McCain for legitimizing her airhead voice

[–] Fraylor@lemm.ee 26 points 1 year ago

Her greatest achievement was revitalizing Lisa Ann's porn career.

Sarah Palin knows what's going on, because she reads ALL THE PAPERS! /s

Non Violent!? They were calling for the hanging/execution of several politicians, with instructions and directions to go get them! 6 people DIED!!! Those that were truly non violent, got much more lenient penalties than the 17-22 years the leaders got.

Sarah Palin is batshit insane calling these people good guys.

[–] DoctorTYVM@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago (2 children)

She always has been. Picking her as a running mate just added to the decline of the gop

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

And look how they treated him at the end! As so many other things Republican, their behavior towards McCain lead by Trump was despicable.

But McCain had a shred of humanity and honor, and there is no place for that in the new GOP.

Alternative headline: Sarah Palin thinks criminals are good guys

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Only when they are white supremecists and accelerationists.

If you shoplift from a CVS, Palin wants will want your hands cut off.

[–] Hairyblue@kbin.social 63 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait, The "Good Guys" were not the capital police fighting to protect Congress and the constitutional procedure taking place? The capital police who stood up to the deadly mob worked up by Trump and aimed at senators doing the work of the constitution...they were not the "Good Guys"?

Palin is wrong and not a "good guy".

[–] PoliticalAgitator@lemm.ee 31 points 1 year ago

Palin is encouraging bad people to be worse and she almost certainly knows it.

[–] HipHoboHarold@lemmy.world 56 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

At this point, fuck it.

You're right Sarah! You are the good guys, and there is just no point. Might as well stop trying to over throw the government and terrorizing marginalized communities. Even voting. It's a lost cause. The deep state will come after you for interfering with their plans, so just stay home. Protest the system by being quiet and not participating.

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

Stop voting sheeple. Your vote won't be counted anyways cause of the deep state. /s

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 49 points 1 year ago

They can all get fucked along with you, Sarah.

Imagine thinking Sarah Palin was someone whose thoughts were worth more than the wretched air they're made of.

[–] Hazdaz@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago (1 children)
