Speakeasy regional networks of airborne transmitters run by organized crime, obviously

Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Nobody would correct invalid usage of Affects at night :)
Which timezone?
Disaster. It's not just personal communication that uses the internet, it's banking, research, security, all sorts of infrastructure things that you don't necessarily interact with directly.
If you shut off the local Internet overnight, then half the world wouldn't be able to communicate with the other half.
I'd have to start watching porn earlier in the day.
Think global. Act local.
you can always download stuff
8pm thru 12am is prime time for streaming. Netflix would need to pivot or go out of business.
Since most phones networks now operate over IP, overnight customer service would break. The US can no longer use call centers in India for daytime call centers.
Batch jobs requiring Internet access can no longer run overnight. Instead they would need to run during the day, tying up bandwidth and CPU for other users. System engineers would need to take this into consideration.
It would be more difficult to coordinate with friends when going out at night. You could no longer order an Uber at 2am if you're drunk off your ass. DWI events would increase.
I wouldn't be able to track busses or trains to plan my commute home after work. I wouldn't be able to stream music while making my kids' breakfast and lunches before school.
Pornhub crashing at 7am
Beyond the ridiculous social effects and lack of access to information, including in emergencies, it would make international collaboration impossible. Bye bye Australia, it was nice knowing you.
One of those ideas that emerges from a complete failure to understand structures as opposed to individual actions. Stomp on the thing I don't like. Reminds me of KOSA.
Given that that is when I am normally awake because I work night shift, that would be very annoying.
I'd get some sleep.
Some people would go to bed earlier.
People would use VPNs of some sort to get connectivity from the other regions.
Occasional memes about the internet curfew. And less multiplayer-only games.
