Summary

Congressional Democrats are escalating efforts to block Elon Musk’s influence over federal financial systems, rallying outside the Treasury Department and proposing the “Stop the Steal” Act to restrict unauthorized access.

Lawmakers accused Musk and Trump of a “hostile takeover” and vowed to obstruct Trump’s nominees, including his budget chief.

Protesters chanted “Lock him up!” as Democrats warned Musk could misuse sensitive taxpayer data.

Despite their push, passing legislation will be difficult with Republican control of Congress.

Problem here that comes first and foremost... we're threatening to block trumps appointments? Sorry none of his appointments should have deserved a single democratic vote. If you could block them... why the hell are we confirming the DUI initiative in charge of the military, and a medicine denying Health agent.

I can't name a single trump pic that's even close to qualified... and all of them should be fought every step of the way on their own merits... regardless of what musk is doing.

Don't threaten. Fucking do it you fucking cowards. Jesus fucking christ. How much will it take for them to act and grow some fucking balls. The end of the fucking country is fucking nigh.

Democrats THREATEN to obstruct Trump's agenda? Really?

This is the worst timeline. Really, just the worst.

Threaten this, finger-wag that, "concerned" legal expert opinions... As a Canadian looking in, your "opposition" leaders better start getting results quickly because Trump's administration is demolishing your country's organizations and checks/balances VERY quickly. If official opposition through established means doesn't deliver wins in the near future I'm worried about what happens when half your population loses faith in legal ways of resisting. I don't want to see either a civil war or an unchecked dictatorship a few hundred kilometers south of me.

It is astonishing isn't it? Why does a Dem Congressman just walk into the OPM with an official entourage, tear the Musk server out of the wall, and tell the guy to stuff it for example? Or something? Why does Musk have more power than elected officials?

I thought my country's opposition is ineffectual, but this is a new level of idiocy.

I think you're going to be getting some bad news in the relatively near future then

[–] GrymEdm@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago

I'm worried about that. I'm hearing a lot of people either giving into despair or openly discussing what I'll call "illegal opposition". I really like a lot of Americans and I don't want to see war and/or oppression hit. But I'm bracing for it, as I think a lot of nations are.

Hey, there's a silver lining here: If a civil war does happen, the blue-dominated North will be aligned with Canada so there's little worry of a civil war leaking North. If anything Mexico has a lot to worry about because their immediate neighbors are... yeah.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

If anything, Mexico has a chance to get back Texas because their immediate neighbors are... yeah.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 4 hours ago

I mean the South is more than half the US by land area. I don't think that's a winning fight for Mexico. Now I wish we could get the interesting geopolitical history without the untold death and destruction part of civil war.

Why isn't obstruction the default response to a fascist agenda?

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago

Why isn't it? Why confirm these nominees? The Democrats have to be doing something OFFICIAL right now. They're sitting on their asses. I can't imagine what they're thinking.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Why even bother saying anything, just do it. Republicans have never played by the rules.

Oh right, because the DNC is fucking useless and only cares about parading around pretending like they're doing anything

The fuck are they doing “threatening”

He’s going to be out the fucking door before they’ve gotten to the second draft of their strongly worded letter.

[–] cerement 12 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

they’ll follow up with a strongly worded tweet

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 hours ago

If President Musk allows it

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

They should have never been complicit in his agenda to begin with

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago

Ha, more lies from the most spineless losers in my lifetime.

Thanks for fucking over the USA.

Zero sense of the need to fight/block any and All things.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago

I mean they should have just to Trump's agenda because of the whole against the constitution that he swore on thing..... They should be significantly more severe due to an elected apartheid loving foreign agent ripping apart our government.
