I loved cliff martinez's ost for "the knick" breaking historical accuracy that obviously did the show really well.

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

The Venture Brothers and J. G. Thirwell.

Cowboy Bebop and Yoko Kanno.

[–] MalReynolds 1 points 13 hours ago

Definitely Bebop!

Scrubs immediately comes to mind, though it's not a very current reference. I still listen to Colin Hay thanks to these scenes. And this one.

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 19 hours ago

Had to double check myself but that's the guy from men at work.

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

The music choices were almost always spot on, exactly matching the tone of the scene

[–] meathorse@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I was sad when I learned the episodes now available on streaming don't have the same music - apparently the rights expired and they had to change many/all of the songs. I only checked one episode and immediately went back to my low-res, offline copy

I still watch from my old DVD rips even though they're all standard definition because the music is intact (as far as I've ever noticed).

Similar happened with the The State but before there was even a DVD release. When the episodes aired their had access to so much music through MTV that it became a big part of the show. It's not the same without some of it.

Silicon Valley. The songs they played at the end of every episode were pretty much universally bangers.

[–] Dg2445@lemm.ee 1 points 13 hours ago

So many good recs on here. True Detective S1 really nailed it for me though.

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago

Peacemaker! So many good songs from bands I've never heard of. Especially Wig Wam and Band-Maid.

Not a show, but Tales From the Borderlands introduced me to Jungle, possibly my favourite music artist right now, as well as a few other gems.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Jungle fuckin rocks

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 1 points 23 hours ago

The episode intro with "To The Top" by Twin Shadow is amazing.

[–] distantsounds@lemmy.world 7 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Breaking Bad & Atlanta both had many new discoveries for me. Twin peaks s3 had some amazing music but I was aware of the majority of the artist beforehand

Edit: add Sharp Objects. Amazing sound design and found a few new gems

Smallville always had well curated songs for each episode.. at the time some were fairly obscure bands

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 1 points 15 hours ago

As a person with an interest in the history of movies I got throw in The Big Chill. It was the OG film soundtrack, I’m pretty sure it was the first soundtrack to hit the billboard top 10 albums in a time when that meant something and is full of ‘50s & ‘60s bangers.

[–] solarvector@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

The Top Gun soundtrack definitely sets the standard.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

If we're doing movies, Pretty in Pink was always my jam.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Grosse Pointe Blank's soundtrack is absolutely amazing.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

CSI Miami had a Papa Roach song I liked a lot better than that cheap knockoff of the original CSI.

[–] thenextguy@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

Stargate Universe

[–] Blackout@fedia.io 2 points 19 hours ago

The outros in Hit Monkey introduced me to a lot of new artists. Here's a playlist of some of them: Hit Monkey

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 4 points 23 hours ago

Definitely Arcane for a start. I'll probably think of others later.

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 22 hours ago

Rick and Morty

The Bear has an awesome soundtrack

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The Americans. Whoever did the soundtrack for that show was amazing. Really great 80s music.

[–] Scirocco@lemm.ee 2 points 13 hours ago

Agreed on The Americana

Justified introduced me to modern gangsta crossover folk music

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

Supernatural and Kansas

Katey Sagal's cover of Bird on a Wire is one of most extraordinary things ever recorded. Tears every time.

Songs of Anarchy is pretty brilliant all around.

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

Sons of anarchy had some really good cover versions of songs (or a specific song I don't remember)

It was very good but rubbed me the wrong way for some weird random reason

[–] Thewhizard@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Everything from Jody Hill / Danny McBride: Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, Righteous Gemstones all have amazing soundtracks.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

Righteous Gemstones has some great music. Not really into country or gospel either, but they found a few winners that work for me.

[–] JakenVeina@lemm.ee 1 points 19 hours ago

Breaking Bad and Stargate Universe both come to mind. Also, a couple from House M.D.

[–] aeki 1 points 19 hours ago

Killing Eve. I got into so many artists only from the soundtrack.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Final Space. They had a fairly unknown artist make masterpieces for them.

[–] R3D4CT3D@midwest.social 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

detroiters has some good motown, soul & punk songs.

this is a great question!

Sharp Objects Ep 2 Intro and another one by The Acid that I can’t recall which episode it was in.

Ep 2 end credits of Chainsaw Man had Zutomayo and while I believe I’ve heard of them before in passing, that song made me actively listen to them.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

The show was kinda lame, but Shrill had a pretty rocking soundtrack

[–] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

The soundtrack for euphoria was amazing- in context anyway, been meaning to look some of it up.
