How about we ghost it until it becomes irrelevant instead.

[–] guyrocket@kbin.social 88 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How about just STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.

[–] guyrocket@kbin.social 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No need to be sour about it.

He deadnames his own child, and yet gets butthurt when the internet deadnames his company. I feel like just “Twitter” is the biggest insult we could collectively give to him as a person, in this context.

[–] Carighan@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Exactly. This. Twitter. That's it. Melon Husk doesn't get a say, he ought to be ignored completely by everyone.

[–] Mojojojo1993@lemmy.world 41 points 1 year ago

Call it nothing and let it die

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 39 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

I've been calling it Xitter. The X is pronounced "sh."

[–] SkepticalButOpenMinded@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I like the sass, but do people know what you’re talking about in spoken conversation?

[–] totallynotarobot@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You think the people posting snarky shit on the internet are engaging in spoken conversation with other humans? I promise we're not.

Could just stop talking about it all together.

[–] lwuy9v5@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago

I feel like it'll piss off the shitbag more if no one calls it X, so, that's what I'm going with

[–] Pratai@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 year ago

Why don’t we just stop talking about it altogether.

[–] Album@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I like Xitter. Kinda like shitter if you pretend it's like a Chinese x sound

[–] redcalcium@lemmy.institute 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

brb posting a Xeet real quick.

I'll just keep referring it to as Twitter if I ever need to talk about it.

[–] traches@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

Corporations don’t get to have deadnames

[–] PissinSelfNdriveway@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oooor how bout we just fucking stop talking about and using Twitter

[–] phillaholic@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

It’s twitter and always will be twitter until dick bag fully runs it into the ground.

[–] Hazdaz@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

...or - hear me out here - we all just stop using that asswipe's platform?!?

Crazy, I know!

[–] acutfjg@feddit.nl 17 points 1 year ago

Just call it Twitter since Elon doesn't believe in calling people by their names

[–] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

I just don’t talk about the name change, pretty similar to how I’ve barely given twitter notice for the past decade

[–] AphoticDev@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I mean, I just still call it Twitter. Probably will until the end of it.

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 5 points 1 year ago

Which hopefully comes soon

I prefer Xitter, but to make it more apparent what the pronunciation is I spell it out more phonetically as "shitter".

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Who wouldn't know what you were talking about if you just called it Twitter?

Don't cater to the whims of billionaires. Not even a little.

[–] ElBarto@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's Xitter (shitter) and nothing else.

[–] coaxil@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

I've been calling it ten

[–] zurohki@aussie.zone 11 points 1 year ago

The ~~artist formerly known as Prince~~ platform formerly known as Twitter.

[–] ganksy@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Yeah I think twitter is fine. Plus it might drive the rat king out of his marbles.

[–] YeetPics@mander.xyz 10 points 1 year ago

I'm cool with just never calling it.

[–] LeftHandedWave@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

I think we should call it "Ten".

[–] jadegear@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Keep calling it Twitter but add @Deprecated so future users know to avoid it?

[–] DoruDoLasu@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

𝕏 sounds stupid so I say it, its old brand was something it currently does not deserve

imagine being an 𝕏 user 𝕏ing on their 𝕏 and re𝕏ing other people's 𝕏es

Anything is fine as long as we call tweets xcrements

[–] Licherally@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

I call it xruth social

[–] sheilzy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I mean, it still is Twitter. That's the URL that people use to access the site. Tbh I have no idea if Musk actually went through the effort of changing the company name in the business licensing or other company paperwork. Just the logo and header seem to say X. But I agree, I'm getting so annoyed with journalists calling it "the site formerly known as Twitter." so dumb.

Playing into it and calling it X does actually reduce the effectiveness of twitter's branding. Just call it X, let people be confused, and let that kill the fun so they will just move on already.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Just call it X. If nobody understands what you are talking about, consider it a positive.

[–] Minarble@aussie.zone 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m still sticking with calling it “Y”

[–] unreachable@lemmy.my.id 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Y" is already taken, by something called an "existential crisis"

If you're so keen on renaming twitter then maybe don't make fun of Elon wanting to do the same.

It's twitter. Always has been.

[–] Maho@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago
[–] tabular@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Or twitter, for short

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

or just leave that shit hole platform and stop talking about it
