What absolutely astonishes me is that the entirety of the country has complete amnesia of the years 2017-2021, as if we're not about to relive that shitty period x10.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago

Picking Vance for VP didn't clue them in at all?

[–] Gromozeka@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Trump said the Americans* will live better.

*See the list of Americans in appendix B

Can you explain for the idiots in the room?

[–] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Blanc is French for white, so it's a joke about Trump's racism and class warfare.

[–] Panthus@lemmings.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Blanc is French for white

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 18 points 10 hours ago

That's exactly what he's trying to do. If you had been even halfassed paying attention you would've known that

[–] WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

Suffer in silence, chooms.

[–] Tyfud@lemmy.world 48 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, but not for the reasons most people are thinking.

For anyone who hasn't read the article, and the articles this article is referencing, they're upset because his Surgeon General pick is in favor of Vaccines and mask mandates. That's it. They thought they'd get an anti-vaxxer in there.

So sadly, they are not turning on trump in the way people in this post are assuming.

[–] invalid_name@lemm.ee 4 points 13 hours ago

So like|as bad than expected from trump, and potential wedge in his base? Fuck yes.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago (4 children)

If COVID comes back, I'll actually be okay with that. More lockdowns and WfH for me, more MAGA scum dying in agony on ventilators for them. Vaccines for whoever wants to live.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

Trump will ban lockdowns and WFH by executive order. How much that will apply to you will depend on your employer and state. If we have another pandemic with similar transmission rates then it will kill ten times as many people.

[–] pezhore@infosec.pub 22 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Bold of you to think there would be...

  • Lockdowns
  • Work from home
  • Vaccines
  • Any published stories about the resurgence of COVID instead of vague, "respiratory illness" reports sprinkled about
[–] Opisek@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

I believe they meant another pandemic the likes of COVID. The world would most definitely care. The news have been quite loud about the monkey pox recently for instance.

COVID itself? Yeah people don't care anymore. If you actively look for the information, you'll find out about new strains and all, but the general public just... isn't interested in that anymore? It's certainly not talked about anymore.

Seeing how quickly people went to completely forget about COVID, as well as looking back at how people behaved during the pandemic, I'm convinced that a slightly more deadly virus would've wiped humanity.

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago

Lockdowns? In a second Trump admin?

If anything, government mandated door licking before lockdowns.

[–] invalid_name@lemm.ee 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Thats a lovely thought but they are a part of the context that shapes our lives. Personal responsibility will not save you; only a large civilizational effort improves your odds against a pandemic.

And let's not throw the immunocompromised under the bus

[–] HelixDab2@lemm.ee 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Personal responsibility will not save you;

...But wearing a full-face respirator with P-100 HEPA cartridges every time you're out in public will.

No, seriously.

I wore a respirator through the first year of the pandemic. Almost everyone I work with caught it; my immediate boss--who is a duller-than-a-sack-of-hammers anti-vax dumbass--caught it five times, and I didn't get it until after the first vaccine came out (...and I got vaccinated just as soon as it was cleared for the general public). Once I wasn't wearing the mask all the time, then I got it. Is that real proof? No. But that kind of thing will sharply reduce your risks.

[–] invalid_name@lemm.ee 1 points 6 hours ago

People who can't are still gonna die. Innocent people who know this is stupid. A lot of us do not have the freedom or resources to do this.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 5 points 13 hours ago

No Trump wants you to take your anger out on his enemies and his friends' enemies.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 53 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Lmao, you mean to say that the NEW YORK REAL ESTATE MAGNATE KNOWN FOR STIFFING HIS CONTRACTORS AND EMBEZZLING FROM CANCER PATIENTS DIDN'T HAVE THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE WORKING CLASS IN THE FOREFRONT OF HIS OBVIOUSLY SELF CENTERED MIND??7?

WHAT A FUCKING REVELATION, WHAT AN UNBELIEVALBLE BETRAYAL, WHO COULD HAVE KNOWN!!1!!

[–] TheFriar@lemm.ee 9 points 13 hours ago

You think trump voters are mad because the picks don’t care about the working class?

Do you guys not read this shit? They’re mad about an AG that’s not pro-gun enough and someone advocated for COVID vaccines.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 0 points 7 hours ago

Trump gave a ton of money to pharma to make vaccines quick. He gave enough masks for the red areas, but did some fuckery with blue areas to make covid worse there to score political points against democratic mayors and governors. The leopards escaped the cities.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Trump: "LOL. Yes!"

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 53 points 1 day ago (1 children)

MAGA you are getting exactly what you voted for and deserve.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They aren't mad because the picks are bad. They're mad because Dr. Janette Nesheiwat was a proponent of COVID vaccines and masks.

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Nobody read the click bait article

[–] islands@lemmy.cafe 41 points 1 day ago

A health care professional confirms that vaccines are real.

MAGA weirdo's lose their shit.

This is America.

... YES. HE IS.

THIS IS WHAT WE, AND HE, HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU THIS ENTIRE TIME YOU DUMB MOTHERFUCKERS.

>it's all morons complaining about vaccinations

oh fuck off.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 37 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's all morons complaining about vaccinations

What the actual fuck? This is both depressing and hilarious. I guess even Trump is too woke for them now.

They voted for this. Trump said exactly what he was going to do. Repeatedly.

[–] FattestMattest@lemmy.world 75 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They are against his picks but I don't think for the reason you think...

Read the article, they are complaining that he's naming an half normal surgeon general instead of a complete quack.

No one competent want to work for the new dictator so he has to turn to loyalist.

[–] invalid_name@lemm.ee 4 points 13 hours ago

No. He's putting in mostly incompetents so they can't turn on him.

[–] ch00f@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (7 children)

one Trump-supporting Truth Social user wrote in response to Trump's announcement.

but numerous commenters spoke out

One user, identified as @thompmark78,

A user with "Patriot. America First" in their bio

@Dbn281977, another user who frequently shares Trump's content

Another user, who posts in favor of Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and is identified as @Omi17,

A self-proclaimed Trump voter identified as @lutherbh1 complained about another aspect of Trump's transition.

So we're talking about maybe 15 people tops? I used to read these kinds of stories and tell myself that we were reaching the "find out" stage or whatever, but this is absolutely not a story. If it referenced any kind of poll data or wider reaching metric than reading a handful of tweets, there might be reason to hope, but as it stands, this is a nothingburger story that just gives you 15 minutes of feeling like there's justice in the world.

[–] kvasir476@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (5 children)

It's pretty disturbing that a lot of reporting has turned into "we saw 10 replies on twitter (or worse truth social) and wrote a story about it."

I was going to post something similar. I've seen this type of article since 2016. Nothing comes from it.

I'm not really sure what's the point of articles like this.

Is it to create false hope that something will change?

Is it to just get non-MAGA people to click the link? <--- Probably this one

or something else.

What would be a good article would be

"Thousands of MAGA voters march on Capitol Hill in protest to the trump administration's handling of the economy."

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

The same point as most other articles. Keep us engaged. Keep us exhausted. Keep us fighting. Oh, and earn a little money too so that the billionaire who owns the network doesn't have to pay anything to keep his propaganda machine turning.

He's a Russian puppet and they never ended the cold war. So yes.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 50 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Oh god. I should have known:

"Dear President Trump, many of us…MANY of us are very disheartened and upset about this pick -this doctor has been a major advocate for pushing Covid vaccines upon people which are being proven cause much harm," one Trump-supporting Truth Social user wrote in response to Trump's announcement. "She also was a big advocate of masking and other terrible Covid policies please don’t let this happen! Sincerely -your base."
