I am generally skeptical of movies in a franchise with a colon in the name, but cautiously optimistic since Prey was a solid movie.

You take back what you just said about Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters right the fuck now! /s
Ha! I was expecting someone to bring up South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut but the ATHF movie was a funnier example.
Neither are part of a franchise, so neeeeyah!
I'll revise and expand, plus reiterate it is skepticism and not immediate dismissal. I'm skeptical about subsequent movies in a franchise with a colon. If the part after the colon is Annihilation or Bloodlines I will dismiss it outright unless someone I trust tells me it isn't terrible.
sailed the seas and just watched the latest alien offering, and thought it wasn't good, seems like i'm in the minority here, and even with some snappy planetside visuals, it was same ole same ole with a laughable alien big bad. the last alien movie that moved me was prometheus, which after getting trashed in reviewworld followed up with a far worse covenant, and now romulus
prey was solid, i dug it, it was very well made, so here's hoping badlands continues the trend for predator
Prometheus good? Your not a minority, you're alone.
So many unanswered questions. So much alien lore down the toilet, hours of backstory takes with guy Pearce and Charlize Theron cut and thrown away. Scientist looking like mercenaries and making worse decisions then a five year old. The little clues pointing to a blade runner connection going nowhere. If david was called weylands son, what does that mean for his daughter?
I guess it works as a generic non alien body horror film.
Prometheus wasn't cut, it was butchered to be just that. A generic scifi horror story.
I will die on this hill, Prometheus was so good, I wished it were 4 hours longer. The butchering of the re-imagining of the Alienverse that started with Prometheus occurred when Scott succumbed to trite overwhelming criticism and killed it deader than Dillinger with Alien: Covenant, even the name says desperation. And then the vision was gone, and we get schlock like Alien: Romulus.

Because lots of people think it's worse than that?
I thought I heard it was a box office hit?
It made $350M on an $80M budget and is the second highest grossing film in the franchise (not adjusted for inflation), but that's no guarantee of quality. That said, taste is subjective and I know plenty of people who liked it. It comes down to whether you can stomach all the unsubtle references to previous films.
Unfortunately, movie quality is not strongly correlated with movie success.
Prey was so fucking good!
I'll remain cautiously optimistic for as long as Trachtenberg is attached to this project. I think Prey was the best Predator film in a while, and it seems like he understands how important changing the setting is. I'm not necessarily sold on post-apocalypse future being the best setting for a Predator, but I'll give Dan the benefit of the doubt.
Dang, what happened to Blade?
I was looking forward to that.
Blade has been in development hell for a loooooong time. I'm still holding out hope that they keep Mahershala Ali, but won't be surprised if they cancel or recast it at some point.
There must be conversations about bringing in Wesley Snipes.
Disney is leaning hard into the nostalgia angle, and Snipes has been doing cameos as Blade in other things so that could be a possibility.
it hasn't even begun filming?
damn it, I just looked up the most recent news, i didn't know it hasn't moved forward at all in the last year.
shit! I hope they keep Ali too. he's the perfect choice.
jfc can we please stop it with the predator/aliens movies? every fucking release is worse than the last
Terminator 6, Jurassic Park 8.... Just stop, no one is asking for these. They're a product of Hollywoods monopolistic business model, a formula by which they know they can get X amount of nostalgia dollars and free advertising through name recognition.
Same thing (for much the same reasons) is starting to happen with videogame sequels too.
i remember playing assassins creed 3 and thinking "fuck...haven't i already played this game? twice?" and yet it's still a behemoth franchise..
Predator films have been solid in recent years and Prey was one of the best in a long time. Alien films have felt like flogging a dead horse for a long time.
I love Prey so much, in my head, it's almost as good as the original. I had such high hopes for Romulus and was left feeling so disappointed.
Looking forward to Badlands. Don't let me down Dan!
