Oh, thanks, I thought I read the woman had ammunition only, but the four earlier tourists were carrying guns. They were apparently not!

Still, if the airport explicitly tells you not to carry firearm ammunition into the country under penalty of prosecution, and then you carry firearm ammunition into the country, you can't be shocked by prosecution.

That was really good, thanks for sharing. I was hooked the whole time. This is the 2023 film btw, not the 2018 film, looks like.

Make the world a safer place, Turks and Caicos.

12 years seems like a long time, but a couple years of prison for bringing a weapon to a country that has illegalized those weapons and states very clearly that you can be prosecuted for bringing those weapons?

Sure.

Very concerned, yea. "Shocked" that the son of the coup ringleader is helping his Congolese dad?

The US had completely unrelated people going to the Middle East to become part of isis and flying to the White House to overthrow democracy. Some kid fighting for his dad seems less weird than either of those.

Nice. I'm just finishing fallout s1, which is turning out much better than I worked about, but i'll give this a look very soon.

I keep thinking of rec, also Spanish, one of my favorites

Haven't heard of this, thanks!

I use vlc, works regardless of the drivers you have and they have built in equalizers that you can easily adjust the max/min volume for until you find the volume you like, including one specifically for the dynamic range you're talking about.

It's been set how I like it for so long that I'm not sure anymore what the exact option is, but I'll try to find it and I'm sure you could find it in the audio settings.

It's some dynamic range compressor something in the audio options that you can very easily adjust for the maximum volume so that explosions won't be so crazy loud but you can keep voices at their normal volume.

Ah, here. It is under tools effects Compressor. Enable the compressor.

You can use hotkeys to fiddle with the threshold until you find something that makes explosions or loud music quiet without affecting dialogue

Go on.

Dozens of people, including Trump, Giuliani, The lawyers and dozens of politicians who helped come up with and enact the forgeries are facing multiple felony charges by AGs across seven States and the DOJ. One of the lawyers has been openly informing on his colleagues.

They spend their birthdays together, scolding xi for 5 minutes every other month isn't really going to do anything.

Silver lining is that Russia could drag down China with it diplomatically and economically and give everyone else some breathing room.

[-] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Oh hell yes, I'm so excited for everyone involved to get destroyed by this case.

By literally forging election documents and sending them in to deceive room officials and overturn the legitimate democratic process.

I cannot get over how insane this plot was and that it was actually carried out up until the point nara pointed out that the documents are forgeries.

[-] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

Great, let the Russians break their backs over this.

I'd like to see their military capabilities in traction for a while.

What an absolutely perfect depiction of this universe. I'm starting the second episode of season 1 now.

Very weird that I am so old and have literally never heard this mentioned in a TV show or book or movie or anything.

In four out of five states, if you go to prison, you are literally paying for the time you spend there.

As you can guess, this results in crippling debt as soon as you're released.

The county gets back a fraction of what they hold over your head the rest of your life until you commit suicide(or die naturally and peacefully with the sword of damocles hanging over your head).

$20-$80 a day according to Rutgers.

Counties apparently sue people and employ wage garnishment to get back the money that majority of people obviously cannot pay back.

Update: Answered in the comments much more thoroughly and succinctly than I can summarize, so head below for some great answers.

She's apparently the warrant officer, which I've seen hypothetical explanations state is the XO, the second in command, but she explicitly states that she is the third officer at the end of the movie, and throughout The movie she is the pilot and she checks the electrician's work and volunteers to go fight the alien first, and also states that she is in command while the others were off the ship.

So was Kane second in command?

And what is a warrant officer?

Thank you

BTW if there is a crazy Aliens expert, I have a few tiny questions that only a crazy fan who literally read everything ever written and watched every interview about the movie might be able to answer.

It was a footnote in an article I read about a monkey using blindsight and that there had been several experiments with humans proving blindsight existed and that surprised me. As a footnote.

There have been several experiments that indicate people can see without using their visual cortex.

Incidentally, it's a pretty great show. I am way more jazzed about watching this fan-made fallout show than I was when I saw the preview for the upcoming netflix show.

the thing opening scene (sh.itjust.works)

So the dog. Opening scene. If it's just looking to infect everyone it possibly can, it doesn't make a lot of sense for it to turn around and stare at the pursuing helicopter.

Are there prevailing fan theories about the reason that the dog, presumably the surviving thing, stopped and looked back at the pursuing helicopter?

Sherman: Your methods pretty scientific lady

Anne: studied urine biology before I met Steve

The movie is way more fun than I was worried about, it was James Cameron's directorial debut.

It's very dumb, but the enjoyable kind.

Everything takes place over a few hours, or entirely set during the immediate aftermath of an automobile crash, for example?

I'd like to avoid "and it was all a dream", time travel, or similar plot devices if possible.

I'm curious what a novel of any length purposely confined to a strict time window in-story reads like.

Maybe I should be reading more plays.

Thanks.

PSA

There was a comment a couple months ago now I think about people concerned that VPNs no longer worked in China.

I traveled in China for several weeks over the lunar new year last month and tested proton, Nord, astrill, and a few random small ones I found off the chinese-accessible internet via Baidu without a vpn, and all of them work fine with the exception of one rabbit one that stated it refused to work in China.

But if anyone had any lingering concerns about the viability of using a VPN in China, they all worked fine, and the three big ones I mentioned worked fine all day every day, the smaller ones disconnected after an hour or so and then you would have to reconnect.

But they all worked, even over the holidays when the government is supposed to crack down on VPNs.

Right now there's a party committee going on for a few days so vpns are supposed to be shut off, but my friend is using a VPN in China and sent me messages from Gmail, which is inaccessible in China without a VPN, to let me know that they're still working.

Corollary PSA, my tickets from NY to Hong Kong were 274 bucks last month one-way, so prices are pretty crazy low right now, or at least they were several weeks ago.
