DENVER -- A teenager scouting out a spot near a Colorado lake to take picturesque homecoming photos this weekend was shot in the face when the boyfriend of the property owner fired his weapon and yelled, “Oh sh__, my gun went off,” court records show.

The 17-year-old boy survived the shooting and told investigators he didn't believe the man intentionally shot him. But the man who shot him, Brent Metz, a councilman in a tiny town in the Denver metro area, was arrested on suspicion of charges that include first degree assault.

Oh sh__, my gun went off

You do not point a gun at something you do not want to kill.

Pointing a gun is a deliberate action which requires intent.

This was attempted murder.

The fact that they'll probably still get to own firearms is what gets me. God this country, where you shoot a KID and they still think you're allowed a gun. Fuck that. You SHOT SOMEONE. Mistake or not that's on you

100%. I imagine this dude was just begging for a moment like this to shoot someone. Very reminiscent of the young girl that was murdered by the upstate NY homeowner when they turned on to the wrong driveway. This is so awful. I hope that young boy and his friend are okay, and I hope the shooter catches prison time.

The article's pretty graphic, and yikes, I hope they go for attempted murder. The shooter fired THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD at kids just sitting in their car and offering no threat. Further, the injuries to the kid's face were pretty substantial.
