Republicans allowing Corporations who Notoriously Abuse and KILL their Workers (including Child Workers) have a Separate and Bought Court System is EXACTLY why DEMOCRATS are the Deep State!

[–] Flocklesscrow@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The Federal government is going to have to stop pretending this shit isn't happening and actually deal with Texas.

They're fomenting all the worst of America, and frankly, I'm tired of playing nice.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

There is a reason Texas is rated only one lone star!

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 57 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So literally a two tier court system. Great. Rules for thee and not for me personified.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

We should have a two-tier court system: one for actual people who have rights, and one for corporate non-people who don't.

The problem with this isn't that it's two-tier, it's that the tiers are straight out of Bizarro-world and absolutely ass-backwards.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 35 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Why even have a court system? Is it for the illusion of a fair trial?

I mean, just create a bot that simply rules in favor of whomever gives it the most money.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Clarence Thomas does NOT apreciate you calling him a Bot!

Like I give a flying FUCK what he cares about.

Because he sure doesn't give a fuck about me.

[–] SassyRamen@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

That's what we already have

They are for the manufacturing of justifications to placate the population from turning their grievances into reductions of profits.

Corruption is bigger in Texas.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 25 points 1 week ago

One might call it "collaboration" between government and business, or one might call it a merger of state and corporate power.

[–] Deello@lemm.ee 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is this just arbitration codified into law.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Nah. Arbitration uses a theoretically third party arbitrator.

These judges are handpicked and wholly owned by the corporations.

[–] Deello@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Nah. Arbitration uses a theoretically third party arbitrator.

Third party chosen by the employer. If your boss forces you to sign an arbitration agreement you don't get to pick the third party. They do.

"They're the same picture"

This feels like a news report in a montage before a post-apocalyptic movie... Not sure it's that important, but it feels like something one might see.

[–] CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

According to Shadowrun lore, the next step is the Supreme Court allowing corporations to raise their own private armies.

[–] johannesvanderwhales@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And enforce their own private law on property they own.

[–] pacology@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

The HOA would like to have a talk about the height of your grass and the color of the planters in front of your house.

Next up, we hope to hear about "Texas Democrats Reform Civilian Courts Ready to Do People's Bidding against Corporate Greed"

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Texas Democrats can't do shit because they're in the minority.

[–] Starb3an@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, just gerrymandered out of office

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago

I meant in the legislature, but yeah.

[–] Badeendje@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

No more judge shopping... Yaay...

[–] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I can hear Musk's little heart going "pitter-patter, pitter-patter" all the way from here on the east coast.
