/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable, neither is supporting people who actively want to kill those groups. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

The resemblance is a little uncanny.

Bell Riots kick off in 6 days, and we have a proto Borg queen coming online in 2024 just like that old gypsy woman said. Maybe we do live in the Trek universe.

That would be way cooler than whatever actually happens with this brain dead idea.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Indeed.

"Who's in the mood to add a little bit of their biological and technological distinctiveness to our own?"

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, I never really thought that being a Borg would be as horrific as the show tried to claim, especially with the way Seven described it.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I guess it just depends on how much of "you" is still in there and aware. If your consciousness and will are fully suppressed, yeah, it probably wouldn't seem all that bad.

OTOH, the body horror of the assimilation process could go either way. The nanoprobes could suppress the pain, or they could just paralyze you. I just try not to think about that lol.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I suppose it's hard to know how much awareness there was in Seven compared to the general population since she was part of Unimatrix Zero.

More like a Borg drone voluntarily making ChatGPT her queen even though it's an idiot and not Alice Krige.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I had that same thought but figured they'd merge at some point lol

even though it's an idiot and not Alice Krige.

Now I'm imagining a Borg collective of just Pakleds.

You are smart. You will be assimilated to make us go.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 8 points 2 months ago

We are Pakleds. Pakleds not smart. ChatGPT smart. Put ChatGPT in Pakled. Make us smart. This is smart idea.

Bell Riots start in a little under 8 days. They kick off in the early morning of September 1st. Our trio of temporal travelers will arrive in 6 days.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 8 points 2 months ago

Yes, my bad. I always think there are only 30 days in August. lol. Aug 31st is always like a surprise "bonus" day for me. 😆

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Roddenberry better be right about this one. If the Simpsons can call it as much as they have, Star Trek can have this one.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Then the site is wrong. 9am September 1st is past the time the riots start and thats 192 hours away. 192 hours is 8 days exactly.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

and thats 192 hours away.

Not anymore.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I was only using that as a measurement to show that the site was wrong. Even when I posted it I was wrong since I'm in Bogotá time.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Ah! Colombian deception! I never trusted you folks and your... um... Rainforest? I don't know enough about Colombia to insult you properly. Oh well.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm american but you really wouldn't want to insult these people. They're the kindest coolest people I've met. It's like if Risa were a country.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I can believe it. I knew a Colombian exchange student when I was in high school and she was awesome. I would love to get in touch with her again, but I only remember her last name, and it wasn't exactly an uncommon one.

[–] Shareni@programming.dev 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't know enough about Colombia to insult you properly.

Just remember that they fuck donkeys. I think that should be enough

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Someone saw that Sue Perkins show...

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

You are right! I never looked closely enough to verify!

[–] teft@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I figured out what the clock on that site is calculating. They're showing time until the riots end

var countDownDate = new Date("Sept 3, 2024 05:00:00 PDT").getTime();

So just take two days and a bit off that display and that's when they should start.

[–] Stampela@startrek.website 12 points 2 months ago

That’s… just weird. There’s performance art, and whatever this has turned into with time.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 months ago

I'm just waiting for her to lose control and kill someone

[–] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Cool it runs off a Raspberry Pi though.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Borg tech was Linux all along?

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If the Borg ran on Windows, they'd have to spend time adding RAM every time they add a drone and the cubes would have to reboot at least once a week.

If it was MacOS or iOS, they'd be limited to a small number of species they could assimilate.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Captain, the cube has released the tractor beam and dropped shields."

"Is it a trick?"

Entire cube turns blue

"No sir, forced update."

[–] bradinutah@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 months ago

Windows Borg. The Borg's version of Pakleds?

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 4 points 2 months ago

Lol yeah. That's the one part of that whole thing I can appreciate.

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

I will give you a "cool" but with a "creepy" and "weird" attached.

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 months ago

A volunteer GLaDOS.

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 months ago

Aww, is someones art not getting enough attention?

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Anyone wearing headphones while having a conversation IRL is very disrespectful.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I agree with that and also agree with the opposite: anyone trying to start a conversation with me while I'm wearing headphones is very disrespectful lol.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I can see that, though you might want to give the other party some time to explain what the issue is, just incase it is something important

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What if they're talking to someone who speaks a different language and they're using their phone and headphones to translate in real time? 🤔

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago

Then the other party would probably need translation back, so just use a loudspeaker and swap translation direction.

[–] pturn1@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

But, the all important question remains: where is the best place to eat cheesecake within a mile of New York???
