I don’t see the problem with this search result. You searched for Lemmy clients and the first link gives a list of Lemmy clients for Android. It happens to be on Reddit but it does match your search.

Google paid good money to index Reddit, so OFC they're going to put their thumb on the scale when sorting the results.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 32 points 2 months ago

Yep. Here is what I get in duckduckgo:

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 1 points 2 months ago

Google paid money to make other engines stop indexing reddit.

Google made a deal with Reddit so they artificially push their results to the top. I don’t even know if Google indexes any of the fediverse sites. The mere fact that the fediverse is fragmented probably means hits are spread across sites, lowering the results in the rankings (ten sites with one customer click thru vs one site with ten customer click thrus).

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 10 points 2 months ago

they index lemmy.world the most

You are using Google which only prioritizes companies they have deals with.

Don't use Google if you want real answers

I know it's a circumvention of the issue, and at times annoying, but you can add -site:reddit.com to the search to rule out a site, iirc

[–] Ghoelian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Or you can just use a different, less biased search engine.

Use a better search engine?

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Like what yahoo?

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Bye bye google, hello duckduckgo or SearXNG.

Google pays reddit to show their results in priority.

Meh. Lemmy's ephemeral, and there's no way Google can tell that a link on lemmya.ml and on lemmyb.xxx are actually the same Lemmy post.

tbh, this is a lemmy issue.

Use -reddit.com to remove Reddit from your search results.

Use site: to limit results to a specific site. For example, adding site:lemmy.world will limit all search results to lemmy.world.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You should actually use -site:reddit.com to remove only Reddit links. Just using -reddit.com will also remove any pages that link to Reddit, which would filter out a lot of non-Reddit results.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

You’re right. My mistake.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club -2 points 2 months ago

I also use a extension to hide it

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

Reddit bills search engines for scraping the site now, and Google is the only one that's agreed to pay.

Use another search engine and you'll get less reddit results.

[–] plactagonic@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 months ago

It will take some time before the algorithm picks it up.

[–] Presi300@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

That's just another reminder to stop using Google

[–] noredcandy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

It’s worth “comparison shopping” with search engines. Run some common queries on multiple engines and see which ones fit what you like. Google takes up a lot of the mindshare for sure, but there are absolutely other options that will probably surprise you with how good they are.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

When I searched Lemmy Clients first result was a Wiki page, second was the actual join lemmy page, and the third being a Lemmy you should know post about clients

Because I need more links here’s another one with client directory from the lemmy post and this one is me keyboard mashing

[–] jagermo@feddit.org 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Give kagi a try. Downranking websites is a fantastic feature

so its like a paid and free option??

[–] jagermo@feddit.org 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

There is a free trial then its paid. Try it and see it works for you

[–] Zeoic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's exactly what I did. The results were so much better, so I paid for a plan. Kagi and Proton were huge for my degoogling that I have been working on.

[–] jagermo@feddit.org 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Same, i upgraded to pro because i use it almost exlusivly now. Ai summaries are also pretty good for a quick overview. Well worth the money.

[–] Zeoic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I dont use the AI a whole lot in the normal day to day, but it has been downright amazing for working on poweshell scripts. Helped me fix a script I was trying to make multithreaded lol

I’ve just accepted the tons of Brave downvotes at this point. At least 80% of it’s profit doesn’t come from having Google as the default search engine 🙂

[–] lud@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

That's honestly way worse because OP asked a subjective question and they likely want subjective answers and actual opinions, and not a list of all the apps.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

Better than Google

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

brave and startpage aint even that bad duckduckgo is bing bro

[–] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Fr fr duckduck got no rizz blud I dunno do you require punctuation?

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 0 points 2 months ago

Really complaining about punctuation on that short of a comment that's totally legible without it? I envy your free time.

[–] crimsoncobalt@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I've been using Kagi for a while now and I love it. I actually get useful search results. Yeah, it's paid, but it's sooo worth it.

Here's what your query looks like in Kagi:
