I’m hearing this in my head right now, thanks for that.

A long time ago I bought bread with this 2 euro coin. I thought it was a fake.

[–] germanatlas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 4 months ago (2 children)

You should’ve paid with another coin

[–] neeeeDanke@feddit.de 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ah yes, the coin commemorating 10 years of the single euro payments area https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2-Euro-Gedenkm%C3%BCnzen#Jahrgang_2009

I thought that was a Canadian 2$ coin from the thumbnail but it's even cooler.

[–] Somethingcheezie@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Our name is cooler

“Toonie”

They release commemorative 2 euro coins regularly. This was the design chosen in 2009 to commentate the 10 year anniversary of the euro. 78 million were made.

[–] pewgar_seemsimandroid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

is it just the dutch? or was there other countries that had these coins, like malta.

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

They were issued across the EU.
