It's when the Americans already went to bed but the Europeans didn't wake up yet. I'm in South Korea and around lunch even sorting by "New" doesn't give me any new posts, sometimes up to one hour.

I know it's a cliche but try posting yourself. That's the only way places like this grow. I don't particularly enjoy posting so I try my best to keep conversations flowing and add discussion to posts without much going on. Every little bit helps.

To that end, what's your favorite thing about South Korea? I don't really know all that much about it. Are you from there or working there or what?

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 46 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Yeah it started with work, I was here for a 3 month business trip. But then I met someone here and asked to be sent on another and one more business trip :D But because it was during Covid I had to stay 2 weeks in quarantine every time I went back to Sweden to renew my visa ^^. (see my quarantine vlog: https://tube.jeena.net/w/p/qG3KZrSACw4QvTQ23prqXR )

After in sum 2 months in quarantine I asked them to move me to the Korean office ( see: https://tube.jeena.net/w/uuQegxjHagGpHhXXDMBGJg ) , that was 3 years ago and we have a one year old son by now already ^^.

That's an adorable story

Aww hell, you made me get all teared up. Congratulations!

Edit: I poked around your Jtube and your baby is adorable!

I love their music 🎵🎶

Greetings from China! I'm not much of a poster though, so admittedly my interactions are by and large restricted to comments.

I'm always browsing Lemmy by /new though (with a well curated block, ban and keyword filter), and the Australians are quite active during those times.

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 16 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Hm perhaps I'm missing out on some Australian content? Any tiops on communities?

I guess the content from China is mostly in Chinese?

[–] viking@infosec.pub 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I don't think there are any actual Chinese communities, at least I'm not active in any. And I'm not actively following anything from Australia either really. I've come to terms with the fact that there's fairly little stuff posted on Lemmy in general, so browsing all (instead of subscriptions) and sorting by new is how I find stuff.

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 9 points 5 months ago

Yeah that makes sense. I'm on a single user instance where subscribed and /all is exactly the same which makes the problem even bigger.

do you use VPN to connect from China or you can connect without it?

[–] viking@infosec.pub 7 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Some instances are available, so federated content is visible if you're on one that works. But external links often don't, and you generally want to hide your online presence even if the sites you visit are not blocked, so I'm using a VPN near 24/7.

Be the change you want to see. On Lemmy, it actually matters to the entire community what you do. If you post a few things every day, other people in the same area will see some activity. :)

[–] kionite231@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 months ago

no OP but I really try to post something interesting or not interesting but I at least post and comment whenever I can :)

[–] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works 23 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Nah mate this is the best time of the day to comment. All the shit we say becomes what they open their eyes to in the morning.

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 6 points 5 months ago

Please continue to eradicate my understanding of society. I prefer to wake up confused. 😆

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I never sleep and I'm always on Lemmy. But I comment and don't usually make posts. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have irregular hours so you have an equal chance of reaching me no matter the time.

[–] Penguincoder@beehaw.org 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Hi Jeena! What instances are on your federation lists for jemmy.jeena.net? What "languages" are selected for the federation/your profile? There's a few active instances at this time, but does depend on if you're subscribed to them, and the languages they send (and your instance accepts).

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

So I only browse my subscribed ones which are all in English, German, Polish and Swedish. On the Korean one it looks like I'm the only one posting there ^^

[–] Penguincoder@beehaw.org 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Check your settings for https://jemmy.jeena.net/admin. Is Private instance checked? (Probably shouldn't be). IS federation enabled checked (It should be) Anything listed in allowed instances? What about blocked instances? Languages should have everything listed, including Undetermined.

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 5 points 5 months ago

No worries technically everything works with my instance, I'm just subscribed to communities which don't post much around my lunch time.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

I’ve found commenting later than the first batch of commenters isn’t as much a problem here are it was on Reddit. You’ll still get votes and replies.

Hmmh, your post shows 04:50 in the morning. That's definitely a time even the insomniacs would be asleep in Europe.

It's a bit better for us. When I go to bed, the Americans from the east start to come home from work. (And there is a good amount of Germans here on Lemmy.)

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 11 points 5 months ago

Hello from Singapore

[–] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago (6 children)

I have a sleep disorder so I'm always awake through the night. For me I kinda appreciate that it makes it easier to stop scrolling, cause there's not anything new showing up and I've already seen the posts for the day :)

I can see how it'd be lonely though. Perhaps I'm used to it cause my sleep disorder is isolating whether I'm using lemmy or not

I hope you have a lovely day today :)

And hello from Europe (sweden)! I visited Korea last year and whilst I wasn't using Lemmy then those time difference really made it hard to talk to anyone who happened to find them self in Europe.

And for a solution to the problem, maybe there are some Korean communities with a bit more activity during that time?

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Nope from what I know there is only one Korean instance with one community and I am practically the only one posting to it ^^

[–] kionite231@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

at least you got one. there is no Indian instance. It would be full of shit anyway so I really don't care but still I want it to exist.

Hi Jeena, I'm visiting South Korea right now and also noticed the drought around that time. How can we get more Koreans to use Lemmy, I wonder?

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 7 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Probably by creating good content on Lemmy in Korean and linking to it from where the Koreans normally are ^^

We probably need more Indians then to balance out the time zones

Night shift in the Midwest; I like the calm before the storm.

[–] CouncilOfFriends 5 points 5 months ago

I will remember to post, if I can ever think of something interesting to say.

Why does your name show up in red on my app. You’re not the OP. I don’t follow you. Cake day? New accounts have a baby beside them Have we talked before. That’s the only other thought
