Legalize and regulate.

Alcohol use is a big problem, but during prohibition people were going blind from bathtub gin, even before the feds would poison it and leave it in circulation.

Not sure who downvoted you without adding anything to the discussion (coward). I think legalization is the best path forward, for both humanitarian and financial reasons. Legalize and tax the shit out of it. Use the taxes to fund education and rehabilitation.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

also make it fucking easy to test that shit anonymously.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 4 points 5 months ago

and regulate it. One thing that annoys me of the current state of weed, booze, gambling, strip joints, etc is the advertising. I wish they had restricted advertising for the establishments to the establishments and regulated the words and signs of signage. I don't want to put people in prison for the stuff but I don't want my environment to look like vegas. Its like the politicians don't realize regulation and sensible regulation (not about punishing folks but about reigning in the businesses) are part of legalization.

Singer believes interdiction of synthetic drugs is so difficult that U.S. policy-makers should focus resources on helping drug users find medical treatment instead of funding more law enforcement efforts.

I am so glad I did my hard shit 20 years ago when coke was coke.

I'm glad none of the drugs I like come as non-descript white powders or pills.

Here here! Give me a one hitter at the end of the day every day. The only thing that gets killed is a bag of chips or some ice cream.

Ayahuasca, mushrooms, and a certain clear liquid (not alcohol) are also good. 😊

Hydro homies!

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Not alcohol? Am I missing something? GHB?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 5 months ago

How is ayahuasca? I love the other two, but I had a friend try it and he said he didn’t feel much besides some nausea.

[–] Syd@lemm.ee 1 points 5 months ago

PCP is great!

Whats the point or motive? Doesn't make sense to kill your consumer base from a business standpoint. Maybe they're just dumb and trying this as a cheap filler or something, and the results are "oops, oh well"?

[–] d00ery@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Experts say the decision to experiment with xylazine, medetomidine or other chemicals in illicit street drug combinations likely reflect which substances are cheap, poorly regulated and readily available.

Money. I think there's always new customers. But I do see your point.

[–] InvaderDJ@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It really feels like drug users' demand for drugs that don't kill them would create a market for artisanal drugs, like with the alcohol industry.

If I had any interest in hard drugs, I would be terrified to use them now. I know we're dealing with addicts who aren't making good decisions, but aren't there wealthy coke fiends? How can anyone snort lines at a party if they don't know if it has all this lethal shit in it?

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

You do the first line and all of a sudden you don’t really care about the repercussions of the next few

Weird use of quotes for something that is not a euphemism

[–] Dewe@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Hmmm maybe there is another use for quotes… Like when someone has said something and you’re conveying exactly what they said. A ‘quote’ of sorts.

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Less conventional 'use' of single quotes by NPR, doesn't make much sense!
