i just can't wrap my head around the fact that otherwise normal intelligent people are so fucking addicted to fake validation from fake "friends" that they continue to consume (PAY FOR) bullshit like twitter

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 169 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Especially when they can get upvotes for free on Lemmy

Real talk, hand jobs are kind of underrated.

Maybe the reason is the left's lack of work ethic ('go fast' rather than 'do it right') and, in a Petersonian sense, to elevate alternative sexual archetypes in the marketplace ('fastest mario').

(am I trying too hard, I really want to bring this copypasta back. I wish lemmy had more copypasta shitposts)

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I've been giving myself hand jobs for 30 years. I'm a pro compared to anyone who wants to give me one.

[–] Facebones@reddthat.com 3 points 3 months ago

1 downvote = 1 dopamine too!

Engagement is all that matters!

[–] pancakes@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 months ago

Even 0 engagement is fine if i made myself laugh from my own comment. That = 1 dopamine too!

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

But upvote dopamine has a short drug half life

I'm also continously surprised by how socially codependent people are.

[–] pugsnroses77@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 months ago (2 children)

humans are social creatures by nature but the issue is the way that people go about fulfilling those needs in the most useless, destructive way possible

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

its not like we are in a healthy society that can offer meaningful human connection

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 months ago

this is like that moment in a cartoon where a character looks at their feet, notices they're standing on air, and fall down

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

As long as the socialibility of the human creates another human who uses the same tools to also make a human, etc., the system works and will require no changes.

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 5 points 3 months ago

As the sociologist Brooke Harrington puts it, if there was an E = mc^2^ of social science, it would be SD > PD, “social death is more frightening than physical death.”

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

i wasn't talking about people being socially codependent, i was talking about how people are addicted to bullshit social media to the point that they neglect actual social interaction with the people (i.e. friends and family) who are literally in physical proximity to them. all to amass fake "likes" for their feed

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 months ago

It’s because they’re actually bigots and enjoy being in the company of other bigots who don’t call them out.
