Whither Reddit? In the meantime, here’s a place to chat up old school revival (OSR) and new school revolution (NSR) style TTRPGs.

My name is Todd aka Hexed Press and I am the current caretaker (have I always been the caretaker?). Here are some other places to find me, if you are so inclined:

At 3PM US EDT this afternoon, I'll be streaming my continued efforts to prep for an OSR D&D hexcrawl that I will be running for myself. Come and hang out, chat, and help me prep!

@hexedpress Hey. I created a solorpg community on lemm.ee, but I'm having trouble uploading a banner for it. Mine is the same dimensions (1200x514) and same format (.webp) as yours on @osr, but still I get a JSON error message when I try to upload it. Do you remember if you had to do some special trickery to get it to work?

Hello there! I've been OSR-curious for a few years now. I like sandbox games where the dice decide reactions, weather, random encounters, etc because that keeps things interesting even for the GM. Incidentally, it also works great for solo play which I like.

However, while the older versions of D&D and retro clones commonly associated with OSR are good games, they're not my preferred type of game. I want the "powers" that newer games gives me as a player, with more mechanics per class. Therefore, I prefer games like Pathfinder over Old School Essentials.

So, while I think I have a decent grasp of what OSR is, I'm not quite sure what NSR is; my impression is that NSR means "playing in the OSR style, but with modern mechanics". Is that correct, or maybe I'm completely off the track?

So much world building and flavor crammed into one book. With this and Worlds Without Number you should not need anything else.

As the completed story concept is not very defiened. I borrowed Red at Spacegamers Ignobles ***To go to Level 2 all Ignobles must be checked off. GM will tell players they achieved an ignoble or players can make case / ask for ignobles. ******Ignobles should require greater and greater deeds for each new level to be checked off.

All must be checked off before advancement to next level - Yes you have to do all of these things.

__Adventure (Travel/Exotic Places/ Danger/ Intrigue)

__Bard's Tale (Fame/Triumph/ Notoriety)

__Battle (Military / Battle Engagements/ Great Strategy)

__Crafty Deeds (Cunning Execution/ Skills / Intrigue)

__Desires Fulfilled (Profit/ Revenge /Power / Goals)

__Exercising Prudence (Forethought / Plans and Precautions)

__Personal Growth (Leadership / Comradeship / Political Authority)

__Heroics (Boldness / Courage / Audacity)

__Magical Events (Acquistion / Exposure / Use)

After Level 2 players must keep a log of events they checked off. To verify the current ignoble has been greater than the last.

This turned into part campaign session recap, part creation stream, but all of it was fun! We fleshed out a faction of brigands that my party encountered and created an opposing force of authority as their nemesis. If you’re interested, check out the replay.

I pledged the Knave 2e Kickstarter and I can't wait for the early pdf to drop. Is anybody else waiting for Knave or maybe another game to drop? It is always interesting to be actually waiting for something as opposed to using my musty old tomes lol.

What’s everyone playing? Tell us your system and a bit about your current game, if you have one, or, if you don’t, what game you’re looking forward to playing!

Need somewhere to chat up OSR and NSR style TTRPGs during the Reddit blackout and, dare I say it, beyond? Let this be your home, either temporary or, perhaps, permanently. Be good and generous to each other and game on!
