i've been trying for a couple days to install the fitgirl release of the sims 3 on arch linux using lutris (0.5.17). i've installed it at least 3 times at this point, each time using wine ge 8-26 (technically outdated but the installer wouldn't progress past the first file in the other wine versions i tried, which were system wine-staging 9.8 and kron4ek vanilla wine build 9.17 from protonup-qt), and setting the dependencies and environment variables referenced from this installer script.

the installer would finish, but trying to launch the game, either through the launcher or from ts3w.exe directly, the game would open on a black screen for a few seconds before popping up an error about service initialization failure (didn't think to screeenshot before uninstalling and don't feel like spending another hour to get one screenshot, sorry). this would always happen, regardless of which wine version i used, or whether or not the lutris runtime was disabled.

one thing if note i did notice the 3rd time around was that in the post install file validation (see attached), 14 files would always be missing. i ignored them at first, assuming they were related to the optional store content which i wasn't installing, but now my only guess is that those files being missing is whats causing the game to not launch. only problem is; i don't know what they are or why they aren't being installed.

and before anyone asks, yes i tried downloading linuxrulez!'s sims 3 repack. sadly i dont think anybody is seeding it atm and idk where else i could get my hands on it.

crosspostato da: https://slrpnk.net/post/12840703

Hi, I recently discovered a post that finally allowed me to run the known repacks on Linux, so I decided to summarize everything and share it with you here on Lemmy; let me know if you would improve some steps to make the procedure even easier to follow.

Requirements

lutris, protonup-qt, wine-staging

Set Up Lutris

1. Open Lutris > Preferences > Global Options
2. Enable "Show advanced options"
3. "Disable Lutris Runtime" (off)
4. "Disable Desktop effects" (on)
5. "Disable Screen Saver" (on)
6. "Enable Feral GameMode" (on)
7. Save

Wine Versions Management

1. Open ProtonUp-Qt > choose Lutris > Add version
2. Choose and Install (ignore -LoL versions; Wine-GE suggested)
3. Restart Lutris

Install Windows Repacks

1. Open Lutris > + > Add locally installed game
2. Type the name of your game
3. Select Wine as Runner
4. Go to "Game options" tab
5. In "Wine prefix" create "/home/user/Games/your-game"
6. Go to "Runner options" tab
7. On "Wine version" select the version you prefer
8. Save
    8-1. (If FitGirl Repack)
8-2. Click on the game your just added
8-3. On the botton panel click the "Up" icon near the "Platform: Windows" text
8-4. Run EXE inside Wine prefix
8-5. Open the .bat file inside the FitGirl repack
    8-6. Wait then "Install"
8-7. Wait the "Checking fg-01.bin" window and "All files OK"
    8-8. Close the window
9. Click on the game your just added
10. On the botton panel click the "Up" icon near the "Platform: Windows" text
11. Run EXE inside Wine prefix
12. Open the "setup.exe" file inside your repack
13. Wait; click "Install" if any installation prompt appears
14. Follow the DODI/FitGirl installer
    14-1. Use "C:\" as destination
14-2. Don't create a desktop icon or a start menu entry
14-3. Deselect every option that starts with "Update" for eg: "Update DirectX"
15. After the installation > right click on the game > Configure
16. Go to "Game Options" tab
17. In "Executable" put "/home/user/Games/your-game/drive_c/Your Game/your_game.exe"
18. Save
19. (optional) Right click on your game > Create desktop shortcut

It's just me or RetroArch developed the best FLOSS alternative to proprietary UI? You have a nice overlay, CRT shaders, bezels, some netplay function, customizable interface. All of this completely free and super fast.

Wouldn't be nice to also launch non-emulated games from here?

Using LinuxRuleZ repack on Steam Deck.

Running the boot script takes a very long time, until an error is presented claiming "kernel32.dll" cannot be found (meaning of c0000135 in Microsoft's error codes documentation) and the script seems to then fully freeze with no CPU usage.

I'm considering buying a steam deck, which runs Linux, but also wish to play Mariokart 8 Deluxe. I've seen it be done, so I know its possible, but does anybody know about the DLC/ playing online?

Thanks in advance

As the title says, if someone theoretically wanted to play a cracked game on Linux (not me), could they use the official Steam launcher, or would they have to use Lutris?

11

Where do you download? Excluding particular cases, what are the common steps you take to make most games playable? Where do you keep and launch your collection?

I know there are in-depth guides but I wanted a more genuine commentary on your experience.

So...Yeah. Fitgirl's repack seems to install correctly without crashes. But...I get exit code 768 almost instantly after starting it. I get to see for less than a fraction of a second the Dying Light launcher banner, which disappears immediately, and the runner stops with exit code 768 and no visible errors. What can I do? AMD 7700 32GB RAM with AMD 7800XT. Running Lutris on Nobara.

torrent speed is too slow with an avg of 600kb/s for me can we have files on servers such as google onedrive for faster downloads

Think about it, Linux is the most future-proof OS, not threatened by companies or commercial interests, and the same can be said for Lemmy in the world of decentralized communication for topics of interest. Without these two things the preservation of video games would be greatly in danger.

The jonhcena141 launchers page says that you can add the startup script to Lutris as a native executable, but when I try, The following error appears:

The file /home/(Username)/Games/(game)/start.n.sh is not executable

Does anyone know how to make it work?

I've been trying to install Oblivion Stutter Remover using the proper documentation given for the mod that says I just need to unzip the folder where the mod came and drag it into my Data/ folder inside my Oblivion folder.

I have done everything it says but there is no difference at all, in fact the mod is not working at all since the mod locks the fps at 60 and I have almost 300 fps.

Maybe someone with more experience can help me with this? Thanks.

For some strange reason, this game doesn't seem to work with goldberg emu, despite the fact that it doesn't even have any DRM/SteamStub (running it through Steamless fails). A few months ago, someone from another community helped me get the game setup via something called "Smart Steam Emu" and now I have to launch the game via something called "SmartSteamEmu.exe" (Disclaimer: Idk anything about this stuff, so I'm talking out of my ass tbh).

Well I'm trying to transfer the game to my Steam Deck, but nothing seems to work! I tried getting the game precracked from several different websites. I tried getting the clean steam files and replacing the steam_api64.dll with Goldberg's. I've tried adding as a non-steam game and enabling proton, I've tried Bottles (using both the game.exe's as well as the SmartSteamEmu.exe).

Idk why this little indie game that doesn't even have DRM is giving me such a hard time, when a hundred other games like it have worked fine! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm trying to play a cracked version of JBPP (3 & 7), but the Deck just redirects me to purchase them, even though they're cracked (got them from steamrip) and they work fine on desktop.

I added them as non-steam games and set them to proton experimental, as I always do with my other cracked games that work fine, but these ones don't work for whatever reason. I followed a "foolproof guide to Lutris on Steam Deck" that was posted here a year ago, but that didn't get me any further. (I still have no idea what Lutris is. I guess it just can be used to run games instead of Steam?)

I added the game, created the prefixes folder and everything else the guide said to do. The only thing that happened was an item labeled "Jackbox Party Pack 7" appeared in the Lutris interface (nothing installed like the aforementioned guide was talking about and nothing showed up in the prefixes folder). But when I click "play" in Lutris, the button changes to "stop" for a min, then it goes back to "play" with the game never launching.

If anyone could PLEASE help me figure out how to get these JBPP games (from steamrip) working on Steam Deck, I would greatly appreciate it!

I downloaded rdr2 from dodi (and the updates) it installed properly and everything but it doesn't launch

Running with wine-ge 8-25 It instantly quits with error code (13568)

I read that installing vcrun2019 fixes it but that didnt help

Debian 12 (all up to date) Rtx 2060, 32GB 3200mhz ram, i5-11400f. 1tb ssd, Nvidia driver 525 on X11/i3wm

Ive tried different wine versions/prefixes, reinstalling, changing vkd3d version, updating system and none of that worked

Does anyone know what's wrong ?

I've been considering buying a Steam Deck but already having a decent PC I don't know if it's worth upgrading my PC or buying a Steam Deck.

I have a mid-range PC that runs any game nowadays, but I'm used to playing on console and I'm really more into programming and working on my PC, and what I like about the Steam Deck is that I just take it wherever I want to use it and I have everything ready to play, unlike a PC where for example, for emulated games I would need to look for a controller.

I guess I will buy the Steam Deck, but there are two things that concern me:

  1. How can I add pirated games to my Steam library? Honestly I'd be lazy to have to go into desktop mode every time I want to run a game. Is there a way to add it directly to my Steam library? I understand that Heroic (Epic Games and GOG Launcher for Linux) has an option to add the games automatically to the Steam Deck library, adding my pirated games there would add them to Steam or is there a similar method to do that?

  2. What is the emulation situation in the Steam Deck? I guess the Steam Deck is able to run almost any Switch game and some PS3 games, but I remember there was an emulator launcher specifically designed for the Steam Deck, does anyone know which one it is and if it is possible to open it directly from Steam?

I've been pirating on Linux with Bottles for years and I've never had any problems, I would consider myself an "experienced user" because I always solved my problems on my own but lately I can't run any pirated game on Wine with Bottles.

To start with, I first downloaded Terraria and the game wouldn't open, so I ran the game with the terminal and got this error:

wineserver: using server-side synchronization.
wine: RLIMIT_NICE is <= 20, unable to use setpriority safely
002c:err:wineboot:process_run_key Error running cmd L "C:\windowsystem32\winemenubuilder.exe -r" (126).
0084:err:hid:udev_bus_init UDEV monitor creation failed
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the specifi
ed file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: Internal error.

Investigating I simply realized that it is a generic error, so I started to install the dependencies of the game (from the Redist directory) and they do not open either, I get the same error, literally no executable opens through Bottles, and the funny thing is that I tried everything and nothing changes.

I already tried to change the prefixes, disable GPU acceleration, remove the prefix and create another one (that is, the Bottle) and obviously Bottles has permission to write and read the directory where the games are, so I really don't know what could be causing the problem but it's pretty fucked up.

The curious thing here, is that I have a Bottle where I have EA Play and Battlefield V, and the game opens perfectly, but the Terraria executable does not. I wonder if it is simply some misconfiguration of my system, or the Bottles devs made some change that affects running executables, and I doubt it is the fault of the games being pirated because they are DRM-free games, such as Terraria.

Edit: Nope, reinstalling Bottles did nothing.

As of this writing, Baldur's Gate 3 updated to 'Patch 4' with a lot of changes. Unfortunately, those changes mean there will not be a standalone 'Patch 4' to update your game. The developers made a lot of changes to the system files, thus not allowing the ability to create a update patch. You will have to download the whole game again with Patch 4 included.

As of this writing, Fitgirl/DODI have not updated to this version. The only torrent one I know of is a Steam version on 1337x by IGGGAMESCOM; full game w/ Patch 4 included.

Just to note: Patch 4 has broken a lot of mods, and has a few issues of its own. Also, from reports here, it breaks Vulkan on Linux. User beware.

that's the sequel to FC 5. tried a couple of times to get it to work with various wine versions, had no luck. apparently, it has some unbreakable protection. not sure if that's correct, I can run both Far Cry 5 and 6 without issues, why would they just protect the interim version?

I have been trying to get either of these to work. I have seen a few people say that they got greenluma to work. One of them had said that they did it through WINE, but I have been having no luck.
