I'm considering buying a steam deck, which runs Linux, but also wish to play Mariokart 8 Deluxe. I've seen it be done, so I know its possible, but does anybody know about the DLC/ playing online?

Thanks in advance

I emulated Mario kart 8 deluxe for some time. You can add DLC but can't play online.

Where would i find the DLC?

You should be able to find DLC and update files on the internet (you need both), can't remember where I found them. It shouldn't be too hard because they're out for a long time now.

Just had a look about, it seems that Yuzu has the option to download DLC automatically for any games you might have, but Yuzu has been taken down, so would that mean the servers hosting the DLC are also down?

Do you have another gaming PC? You could try it there. Linux doesn't really make a difference, it would be the same emulator as on Windows.

I have MK8 running in an emulator on my Deck with almost all DLCs. Online used to work using local LAN multiplayer (the emulator would redirect the LAN lobby to a server on the web). For multiplayer to work, all players must have the exact same version of MK8 running in their emulator.

Since the emulator's development was shut down by a certain company, online multiplayer functionality needs some config changes to carry on working, and the lobbies are nowhere near as full as they used to be...

Edit: IIRC, there is a button you must hold while on the MK8 menu to enter local LAN mode

Yepp MK8D, with update 3.0.1 and the booster course pass DLC.

IIRC as long as the host player has the DLC, all other players can play on the DLC maps in the online session
