I know that Lemmy is in early beta, but would hosting an instance now help with identifying issues such as feedback on operating an instance and activity pub issues, etc...?

There might be something wrong in users' interest in Lemmy :sad but relieved face:

Drinking from aluminum coke cans. Every holiday until my grandmother passed away, we used to go to my grandparents place for the holidays. They'd always have a big box of coke cans in the fridge. I rarely drank cans of coke unless I was at their place or a cousins, and nowadays I never drink it. Every time I do, I get a little blast from the past.

This question comes as a follow up to this post.

Is there a list of public up-and-running instances?
If not, is there a plan by anyone (including individuals that just set it up so far) to gather such a list?

Edit: corrected link in "follow up to this post"

As far as I know there is still no federation for Lemmy, correct? So what's the biggest hurdle to getting started and how do we resolve it?

For example, scroll to the bottom of this post:

When each row uses exactly one line there's no problem (eg). But when some cells consume two lines or more it's a disaster. The left column cells are vertically centered, which makes it unclear which line is for which row when there are no grid lines.

Here's a pattern you've probably seen:

  1. Racists/nazi shows up and says racist/nazi things
  2. Get called out for it and/or banned
  3. They claim they are unfairly banned "for disagreeing." They completely leave out the part about them being a racist nazi.

You know, that move. I've seen it more times than I can count and I bet you have too. They call disagreement with nazism "opinions you don't like", leaving out the nazism part. Any way of framing disagreements with them while subtracting out the actual content of what they say.

It's so common that I think it deserves a word. I know there are generic descriptions: e.g. "being a troll", but I think something specific to this particular behavior deserves its own word. That way it can just be identified and dismissed for what it is and not argued with.
